Boise is a rich world.

  • As a rich world, this planet has high-grade living conditions and is highly sought after by immigrating sophonts.
  • This world has a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Some of the sources of this world's wealth are well known, but others remain a mystery. Many speculate on these mysterious sources of wealth. Some even investigate them... to no avail yet.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Kursa Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Boise has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a yellow main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Boise is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Boise has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Boise has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)

There is a northern ice cap surrounded by a polar sea.

The southern pole is arid, with any polar ice buried beneath the surface.

There are numerous mountain ranges across the surface of varying heights. While most are low ranges, there is a high range (3000m average) which intersects the northern sea, becoming a short archipelago that disappears under the ice cap.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Boise is a member of (and the namesake of) the Boise Group region of the Borethane Cluster, a cluster and trade route lying across the border between Aldebaran Sector and Neworld Sector.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Boise has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The Boise downport is situated on the leeward side of the northern mountain range, 30 km from the coastline. It is an older design, Solstate downport that was never completely finished. It has 12 landing areas in a a radial pattern around the central control complex. There is an archaic "landing strip" to the south for any craft using winged designs.

There is a power station here and a pipeline to the sea that provides an adequate water supply. A light rail system connects the port to the coastal startown, Edahu. It is apparently not unknown for locals to walk the distance or use personal ground craft.

World Population (P)[edit]

Uplifted Ape Sophont Comparison 2.jpg

Boise has a population of 10,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

  • More than 90% of the population (in excess of 9 million individuals) consists of Solomani humans.
  • Less than 10% of the population (fewer than a million individuals) consists of Uplifted Apes.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Boise possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World Government (G)[edit]

Boise is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Boise has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Urbanization[edit]

There are 11 small cities, all situated on or near the the northern sea. These cities are connected by a roadway system, and light rail. Watercraft are used to move heavy loads, taking the place of heavy rail.

There are smaller communities acting as suburbs for the cities, usually in particularly picturesque locations. Some of them reside in the northern mountain range and archipelago. These are usually either primarily human or primarily uplifted ape communities. The ape communities are interesting in that they have a more vertical design system, with ladderesque pathways and ramps, and fewer staircases.

Inhabitants here dress for warmth, due to the closeness to the pole.

Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]

The society uses a mixture of well-irrigated croplands and pastures to the south, combined with refined aquaculture techniques both in the northern sea and in the mountain rivers to meet their food needs.

The local mountain range is also has a well-run mining industry, which employs a significant amount of skilled labour.

Beyond that, there is a solid base of both heavy and light manufacturing supported by a electrical grid supplied from a backbone of fission reactors (confirmed by orbital radiological readings, appendix B1). This base seems adequate to support the needs of the population, but most of the facilities are being maintained, but not expanded; many are over a century old.

The cities seems to be proud of their ability to educate their young, both human and ape. Most educational facilities beyond basic schooling seem to focus on trades and business skills. The Technical University of Ohmaha was the only technical university listed in their "call book".

That said, there seems to be very little, if any, poverty. There is a standard 4 day workweek here, and there were no discussions regarding work problems noted in casual conversations.
