System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Victoria is a medium size world with a dense, tainted atmosphere. The taint requires an oxygen supply or full sealed environment suit to survive, but exists only at the lower elevations. Above 1000m the atmosphere is safe to breathe.

It orbits within its star's habitable zone.

Chart Orbit HZ Region Simple.png

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Victoria is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Victoria has a pressure of 2.5 or greater atmospheres. A Dense & High Pressure Atmosphere typically requires no survival gear under many conditions. Pressure at or below sea level is too great to support life but the atmosphere may be breathable at higher altitudes. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • Breathing the atmosphere at altitudes of less than 1000 meters without protective equipment will result in carboxyl poisoning.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Victoria has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.

  • The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
  • Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

An early map of Victoria, done at the time of the First Survey.

  • More modern charts of the world are not generally available.

Satellites[edit]

Victoria has a single moon, Albert, which is large enough to retain an atmosphere and even appears to have some surface water.

  • Its UWP is H251000-0. It is extremely heavily cratered.
  • It orbits Victoria once every few weeks.
  • It is a Forbidden World. No visitors are permitted.
  • There have been reports of a stone (or sometimes crystalline) city on the surface.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Victoria is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.

  • Travel to this world is prohibited.

While proper permits might allow visits to Victoria, such permits include strict clauses about trading specific types of metal or metal goods to the locals, and specifically prohibits access to Victoria’s moon, Albert. Permits make it perfectly clear that lethal force may be used without warning against any vessel approaching the moon.

Point of Interest: Orbital Bombardment Evidence[edit]

Approximately 300,000 years ago Victoria appears to have been subject to a devastating bombardment from space by a variety of weapons, most notably asteroids. The bombardment resulted in a number of immense craters, some of which are today seas or great lakes; the Mesas also appear to have been created by the bombardment.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Victoria has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Victoria has a population of 10,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

Urbanization[edit]

The people dwell on high ground, mainly in a region known as the Mesas.

  • In addition to the City of Victoria, the other major settlement on the planet is Sarik Gi.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Victoria possesses a Technology Level of TL–2.

Air travel has become a reality on Victoria. Balloons and dirigibles, a relatively new technological development on the world and usually powered by manually driven airscrews, have made travel possible to high elevation habitable areas previously cut off by low ground. Additional buoyant gas is usually carried in large earthenware containers. Most balloons and dirigibles are relatively small, able to carry a few personnel and a little cargo, but much larger, far more ambitious vehicles are being designed and constructed.

World Government (G)[edit]

Victoria has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Victoria has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 6 (millions)
  • Infrastructure: 3 (very limited)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: 1 (extremely concrete)
