• As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
• It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
• It is a pre-agricultural world with an environment suitable for large scale agricultural and livestock industries that have not yet been widely developed.
• Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to gradually rise barring outside forces.
• It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Lunion Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
• This world has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
• Wardn is a member of the Spinward Main.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

• The mainworld, Wardn, the third world orbiting the star. In early surveys it was referred to as X0107-3. Later it became known as Silver.
• x4 secondary rocky worlds. These are:
  • X0107-1: a hot, tectonically active, uninhabited inner system world that is surveyed from time to time due to the shifting nature of its surface geography.
    As of 1100 it is subject to routine flybys by Scout Service vessels. This is partly due to the system’s sensitive location on the Imperial border and the need to maintain vigilance, but mostly due to the discovery (in 1099) of automated listening equipment of unknown provenance on the surface, which was tracking ship movements within the system.
  • Pzl (previously X0107-2): An uninhabited arid trace atmosphere inner system world.
  • X0107-6: an uninhabited outer system frozen rockball with a very thin atmosphere. It harbors microscopic native life.
  • X0107-7: a frigid outer system exotic atmosphere world. It has a forbidding environment and no real economic or strategic value, but the Scout Service maintains a small research outpost on the surface.
• x2 gas giants.
  • Enex (previously X0107-4): an outer system small gas giant. One of its moons is the location of Scout Base Enex.
  • Apelinne (previously X0107-5) an outer system small gas giant with no large moons.

Mainworld Data

Wardn's weak magnetic field and thin oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere result in high levels of surface radiation.

Mainworld Size (S)

Wardn is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Wardn has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Wardn has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

• While the world has a wide range of environments, it is most well known for the patterned deserts of the northern hemisphere.

Native Lifeforms

Wardn's plant life varies in character across its surface. Close to the cities and in cultivated areas most species are imported, including several staple crops. The native plant life has been largely driven back from these areas, though some species are farmed or cultivated for decorative purposes. Away from the main centres of habitation, Wardn's natural ecology remains strong.

Equatorial flora is noted for its burgundy-purple hue.

The most commonly encountered food animal on Wardn is Zhettil's Grazer, often known colloquially as a Plod. Another common animal is the roap, a playful, furred serpent-like creature; they are common around the planet's cities.

History & Background (Dossier)

Wardn was formerly known as Silver and was originally one of the Metal Worlds, but it has not been considered part of that group for centuries.

Wardn is the site of the prestigious Gervaan-Zseet University, known for its xenobiology department.

Point of Interest: Mysterious Petroglyphs

Wardn's famed Patterned Desert features intricate patterns carved into its surface, with no known source. While some experts have suggested that these patterns are caused by anaerobic life, others think they might be relics from earlier civilizations.

World Starport (St)

Wardn has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

• The world is host to a Scout Base.
• The senior scout is Commander Bertram Sapasidi.

A detached office of the Imperial Scout Base at Wardn is located on Enex II, a moon of Enex, a small gas giant occupying the fifth orbital position in the system. It was originally built to act as a headquarters and data storage facility for IISS personnel studying the Sword Worlds, a few parsecs to Spinward.

World Population (P)

Wardn has a population of 50,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

• This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics

Most of Wardn's people are Human, though there are notable minorities of Vargr and other races. Society is well integrated; there are no racial divides or separate enclaves.

Wardn Humans tend toward dark skin, and usually take melanin pills to help combat the sun's rays.

Urbanization

Most of Wardn's inhabitants live in small cities in the warmer regions.

• The port and major city is called Strellin.
• Other settlements include Grale, Sey, and Cam.

Linguistic Topography

The most commonly heard languages are:

• Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
• Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.

Wardn is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law (L)

Wardn has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Wardn, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

• It holds the estate of an Imperial knight.
