Description (Specifications)

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding the subsector:

  • The subsector is a low stellar density region.
  • There is no single brightest star: the subsector contains multiple white main sequence stars of similar brightness.
  • A large rift region covers most of the subsector.
  • The Cheater's Route, an important local trade route, follows the trailing edge of the region.

Stellar Distribution

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Old Perch Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rift Regions

A basic chart showing rift regions, areas of low stellar density within the subsector, shaded in blue.

Nature of Rifts

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based purely on Jump Drive performance.

Rift regions generally relate to regular commercial traffic and the way it travels between destinations. Merchant vessels with jump-4 drives or better are fairly rare because of the higher costs involved in operating the vessel, the lower revenue generated by the reduced cargo space due to the need for large fuel tanks, and the relative paucity of technologically advanced maintenance facilities within the region. As a result, the vast majority of merchant vessels are capable of jump-3 or less.

  • Large areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • The exact nature and borders of a rift may be determined by specific circumstances, tradition, or other locally important criteria.

In order to qualify as a rift, the region must have ten or more contiguous hexes. Many areas have minor void regions that are too small to qualify as a true rift, but are still significant enough to seriously hamper and channel interstellar travel.

World Listing

Comprehensive survey data for all worlds that lie within the subsector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.

Anagathica  •  Havensmith  •  SP Break 1812  •  Vapor  •  VoidBridge 1  •  VoidBridge 2  •  VoidBridge 3  •

Note that some survey data may be out of date, typically due to ongoing resettlement and rebuilding efforts being carried out in the aftermath of the Empress Wave.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

Subsector Summary

Old Perch, subsector G of Thaku Fung contains seven worlds with an estimated population of 2 billion, a per capita income of Cr8,204, and a total economy is BCr16,408. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr2 through 2 starports (1 Class A, 0 Class B, 1 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 3,245 people. Driving this interstellar trade are no Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and one Industrial (In) world. The governments in Old Perch maintain one Naval base, one Scout base, and one Military base. The average technology level is 3 (with most between 0 and 8). The highest technology level is 12 at Havensmith (Thaku Fung 2315).

Old Perch, subsector G of Thaku Fung contains four stars and 41 identified planets; four monostellar systems, no binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 2 of the seven systems (28%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, one Desert (De) world, no Garden (Ga) worlds, no Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, one Poor (Po) world, no Vacuum (Va) worlds, and no Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Old Perch has an estimated population of 2 billion distributed across one High population (Hi) world, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, no Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, one Low population (Lo) world, and two Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Havensmith (Thaku Fung 2315). The population consists of 1 sophont groups.

Major Historical Events Timeline

Major events that have affected this subsector and the wider region that it lies within:

Later Historical Eras

In general, "Later Historical Eras" refers to events that occur post-1116 – a date that marks the beginning of the Rebellion, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Third Imperium. The year 1116 is seen as a historical dividing line, as it were, between the old and the new.

The Imperial Rebellion and its consequences were largely meaningless on the far coreward edge of Charted Space – for worlds in Thaku Fung Sector the key historical event that marked the divide between the old and the new was the Empress Wave. In this context, "Later Historical Eras" generally refers to the events in the years, decades, and centuries following the passage of the Wave.

  • The Wave entered the coreward edge of the subsector around the year 1050, passing through its territory at a rate of roughly 1 parsec per year, and exited the rimward edge of the subsector around the year 1060. Its effects varied from world to world, but were never good: it left insanity, societal collapse, and death in its wake.
