Five Sisters Subsector is Subsector M of the Spinward Marches.

  • It is a turbulent frontier area.

Description (Physical Astrography)[edit]

The subsector is a region of balkanized space named for a group of systems (Mirriam, Jone, Karin, Ucella, and Penelope) known as the Five Sisters.

The Five Sisters Subsector is defended by 208th Fleet.

Astrographic Features[edit]

The following astrographic data has been determined regarding Five Sisters Subsector:

  • The subsector is a slightly below average stellar density region.
  • The brightest star is the blue-white main sequence primary of the Saxe system.
  • One rift region lies within the subsector: the central part of the Greater Collace Rift.

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Five Sisters Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rifts[edit]

The Greater Collace Rift occupies the central part of the subsector.

  • The rift's borders remain relatively indeterminate: astrographers differ about its exact physical boundaries.
  • It is an obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.

Trade Routes[edit]

The Spinward Main[edit]

The Spinward Main is the arterial trade route within the Spinward Marches.

High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels laden with goods, commodities, and luxuries move along it, bound for the thriving markets of its member worlds.

Local Routes[edit]

The Spinward Main has two major branches within the region.

World Listing[edit]

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Five Sisters Subsector is available.

  • The primary source material is the T5SS data and Traveller Map.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
  • Older, incorrect, or outdated data is retained for reference.

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]

Ignaz Ruffleran was a merchant captain and explorer of the Five Sisters Subsector between 142 and 161; he had five daughters. The worlds Mirriam (SM_0333) (world), Ucella (world), Penelope (world), Karin (world) and Jone (SM 0433) (world) were named after them.

Declared an Imperial District (District 267) in 610, the subsector is only sparsely settled, and depends upon Imperial payrolls for most of its internal economy. Some colonization attempts were begun under the auspices of Emperor Paulo I in 740, but all developmental activity was stopped under the Psionics Suppressions of 800.[1][2]

The Five Sisters subsector has been under Imperial Naval administration (based at Iderati) since the 800s.[1]

Separated from the contiguous Imperium by nearly 10 parsecs at its closest, this region is the Third Imperium's most far-flung outpost, accessible only via a long communications link passing through the Sisters' Reach to the Sword Worlds or the Collace Arm and the wilds of District 268.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Five Sisters, subsector M of Spinward Marches, contains 27 worlds with an estimated combined population of 953 million, a per capita income of Cr3,620, and a total economy of BCr3,450. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr74 through 16 starports (2 Class A, 5 Class B, 6 Class C, 3 Class D) employing 23,375 people. Driving this interstellar trade are nine Agricultural (Ag) worlds, one Non-Agricultural (Na) world, two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, four Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, four Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Five Sisters maintain seven Naval bases, three Scout bases, and one Way station. The average technology level is 7 (with most between 5 and 10). The highest technology level is 12 at Karin (Spinward Marches 0534) and Iderati (Spinward Marches 0732).

Five Sisters, subsector M of Spinward Marches, contains 39 stars and 242 identified planets; 15 monostellar systems, 12 binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 15 of the 27 systems (55%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, two Desert (De) worlds, four Garden (Ga) worlds, two Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, two Poor (Po) worlds, two Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.

Five Sisters has an estimated population of 953 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, one Moderate population (Ph) world, 13 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, five Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Mirriam (Spinward Marches 0333). The population consists primarily of 4 sophont groups including two native sophonts.

These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr74 through 13 starports (2 Class A, 5 Class B, 6 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 23,355 people. Driving this interstellar trade are six Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, four Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, three Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in the Third Imperium, Domain of Deneb maintain seven Naval bases, two Scout bases, and one Way station within the subsector. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 6 and 10). The highest technology level is 12 at Karin (Spinward Marches 0534) and Iderati (Spinward Marches 0732).

The Third Imperium, Domain of Deneb has an estimated population of 872 million within the subsector, distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, one Moderate population (Ph) world, five Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, two Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Mirriam (Spinward Marches 0333). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups. Two Droyne-inhabited worlds are interdicted.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are ten Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Five Sisters with an estimated combined population of 77 million.
