Cadiz is a low-population fluid world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- It is a member of the Grand United States of Quesada, which is a member state of the Solomani Confederation, in the Firdausi Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
- It is a member of the Orizaba Cluster.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Stellar Data
Cadiz has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data
Cadiz is tidally locked to its primary star.
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits at the outer edge of the habitable zone.
Mainworld Size (S)
Cadiz is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Cadiz has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks, but protective suits not necessary, but are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It has a dense nitrogen-argon atmosphere.
- It experiences low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Cadiz has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
The dark face of the world is largely covered by a sheet of heavily contaminated water-ice.
History & Background (Dossier)
Cadiz is a member of the Orizaba Cluster, a small cluster and minor trade route lying within the coreward-trailing quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.
The Quesadan Inquisition is known to be active on the world. It is a religiously sponsored investigative agency that is charged with rooting out heretical thinking. It has the authority to detain and question individuals.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)
Cadiz has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)
Cadiz has a population of 5,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Latin, an ancient Terran language used by the Church of Quesada.
- Quesadan Spanish, an Iberian Dialect of the Spanish subfamily of languages of Terran origin spoken principally in the Grand United States of Quesada.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
- It is a second language within the Grand United States.
World Starport
Cadiz has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Cadiz downport is run largely by automation; meaning, totally.
World Technology Level
Cadiz possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
The settlements observed are built of mark II Orient domes, and appear to be powered by a set of fission reactors.
World Government
Cadiz is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.
World Law Level
Cadiz has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

No further conversation was possible as each time we attempted the speak, the mob shouted us down."
