Shepherd One is a pre-agricultural, moderate population rich garden world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- Garden worlds are known for their near-ideal utopian environments conducive to most sophonts, plants, animals, and other forms of life.
- It is a pre-agricultural world with an environment suitable for large scale agricultural and livestock industries that have not yet been widely developed.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Quatuor Subsector of Neworld Sector.
- It orbits the system's secondary star.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- It is a member of the Shepherd Trace.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Notes[edit]
The secondary star orbits the primary once every 4.16 standard years (approximately 1,520 Standard Days).
- Their barycenter – their mutual center of mass – lies just within the larger primary star.
- The mainworld orbits the secondary star once every 120 Standard Days.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld. It orbits the secondary star.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds. Two orbit the secondary star, one orbits very close to the primary star, and three have outer system circumbinary orbits around both stars.
- x2 planetoid belts. Both have circumbinary orbits around the two stars, forming the outermost part of the outer system.
- x1 gas giant. It has a circumbinary orbit around the two stars.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Shepherd One is tidally locked to the system's secondary star.
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the dark face never sees the star.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits at the outer edge of the secondary star's habitable zone.
- It orbits within the prime region of the primary star's habitable zone.
Shepherd One orbits the systems red secondary star, completing one orbit every 120 standard days. It is tidally locked, with one side always facing towards the red star (the bright face) and one side always facing away (the dark face).
As it orbits, the dark face of the mainworld is exposed to – or hidden from – the system's bright primary star. It follows a cycle equivalent to a 30 standard day Morning as the primary star rises, a 30 standard day Midday while the primary star is overhead, a 30 standard day Evening as the primary star sets, and a 30 standard day Night while the primary star is hidden.
- Locally, this cycle is termed as "Seasons".
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Shepherd One is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Shepherd One has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
- It experiences generally high temperatures within the twilight zone.
The world's dark face experiences "Seasons", each lasting around 30 standard days and relating to its position relative to the system's primary star.
- Temperatures rise to relatively high levels during the Morning Season.
- Temperatures climb to dangerously high levels during the Midday Season.
- Temperatures drop to relatively high levels during the Evening Season.
- Temperatures fall to uncomfortably low levels during the Night Season.
Temperatures are consistently high on the bright face during Morning, Midday, and Evening Seasons. They reach extremely high levels during the Night Season, when the bright face is exposed to both stars.
- At the midpoint of Night Season the bright face experiences a 1 standard day Eclipse, when the primary star is hidden from view by the secondary star.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Shepherd One has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- During the depths of Night Season the seas on the dark face become crusted with pack ice.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Local lifeforms are adapted to extreme temperature changes.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Shepherd One is a member of (and the namesake of) the Shepherd Trace, a small cluster and trade route lying in the spinward-rimward quadrant of Neworld Sector.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while a few see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Shepherd One has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Shepherd One has a population of 600,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population almost entirely consists of humans of Solomani descent.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Shepherd One possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Shepherd One is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
World Law (L)[edit]
Shepherd One has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 3 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)

- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 4 (harmonious)
