Mote is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and are both non-agricultural and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • They require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • These worldlets have very few prospect for economic expansion.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Asphodel Subsector of Neworld Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mote is an Asteroid Belt mainworld.

Asteroid Belt 10a.jpg

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Mote is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

None of the bodies within the Mote belt retain an atmosphere.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The Mote belt contains a few icy bodies. A few belt objects may have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

The two largest bodies in the belt, each with a diameter of around 100 km, orbit very close to one another, towards the belt's outer edge.

  • It is the location of the primary settlement.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Mote, the tiny but high mass white dwarf primary, glows a ghostly white in the dark skies.

The system's tiny primary star causes interference, strange tones and noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.

Mote is a vacuum culture – expect frequent and varied public safety drills. Water, air, and other essential supplies are monitored and conserved. There is a public school system for children, and public further education systems for adults. The princiapal local industries are asteroid mining and scientific research.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while many see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Mote has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Mote has a population of 600,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population almost entirely consists of humans of Solomani descent.

Urbanization[edit]

The Mote starport is constructed on and within the larger of two co-located asteroids.

  • There are at least two other heavily populated asteroids in the belt.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Mote possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Mote is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Mote has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
