Kelheim is a low-population fluid world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Zarn Subsector of Canopus Sector.
  • It orbits the system's secondary star.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
  • It is a member of the Zarn Cluster.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Kelheim is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a turbulent red giant named Kelstern.[2]
  • The secondary is a red main sequence named Glut.
Kelheim has two stars in the star system.

Notes[edit]

The two stars orbit one another once every 2,450 standard years.

  • Their barycenter – their mutual center of mass, which they orbit around – lies within the giant primary star.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

  • The mainworld, orbiting the system's red main sequence secondary star.
  • x4 secondary rocky worlds.
    • x1 orbits the giant primary star.
    • x3 orbit the system's red main sequence secondary star.
  • x4 gas giants.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Kelheim orbits towards the outer edge of the secondary star's habitable zone.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Kelheim is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Kelheim has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Kelheim has 55-65% of its surface covered by water-ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.

  • The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
  • Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Kelheim is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.

  • Travel to this world is prohibited.

It is a member of the Zarn Cluster, a backwater cluster and minor trade route principally lying within Canopus Sector.

The population are Confederation-sanctioned geologists, surveyors, mineralogists, and mining engineers, as well as their various support staff and families, present to carry out extensive resource surveys. They are overseen by a Confederation military liaison team, who both act as local security and serve as the world's government.

Although it lies within the territory of the Confederation, Kelheim is not officially a member of that state, remaining as a neutral world due to it's Forbidden World status. It relies on the Confederation for trade and defense and actively cooperates with Solomani interests.

The system's huge primary star causes interference, strange tones and noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Kelheim does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World Population (P)[edit]

Kelheim has population of 500 sophonts (hundreds).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Kelheim possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Kelheim is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Kelheim has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

  2. Editor's Note: On Traveller Map, the system's primary star is noted as being an extremely luminous bright giant. It lies within a region of space that contains many named stars that make up the constellations visible in Terra's night skies. Since a bright giant star would be exponentially brighter than any of the named constellation stars that lie within the sector, and would as a result radically alter Terra's constellations, it has been dialed back to a substantially less luminous giant star.
