Deliverance is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Narmada Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Deliverance has a solitary primary star.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Deliverance is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Deliverance has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences relatively high temperatures.
- The atmosphere has a high carbon dioxide taint.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Deliverance has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Deliverance has several large oceans and substantial polar ice caps. It is geologically active with several high mountain ranges and active volcanoes.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- The most sophisticated land lifeforms are large species of flora and many kinds of insectoids.
- Native lifeforms are thermophilic - they thrive in higher temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Deliverance has a population descended from early Solomani expansion: over many centuries its inhabitants have developed a natural tolerance for the atmosphere's high carbon dioxide content. Travellers tend to stand out because of their need to use Filter Masks; as a result locals tends to notice them and treat them a little coldly. Travellers are often made fun of by emulating their speech patterns with an affected "static" lisp, as from their masks.
The world imports large quantities of hydrocarbons, primarily from Tiajama.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Deliverance has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Deliverance Outbound is the name of the main planetary downport, located in the nation of Virginia. It is sited on a broad stretch of barren ground donated by the national government. It is approximately 60 km from the capitol.
- The downport makes a point of supplying locally sourced food, including as ship supplies and within outlets such as cafeterias and restaurants.
- Firearms and projectile weapons are collected and returned upon entrance and exit.
Deliverance Downport was de facto renamed Outbound after a number of young men and women begged sanctuary, and found positions on outbound cargo vessels using working passage. These individuals are cited as cautionary tales to the youth, but are seen as role models and heroes by the youth. Some have written back to their families with tales of their adventures among the stars: of course, there is no word of some of the others.
World Population (P)[edit]
Deliverance has a population of 500,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
A large number of cities and towns are dotted across the primary landmass, mostly constructed to TL–5 or TL–6 standards. Examples of older construction styles can be found in very rural regions.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation. It is spoken with a distinct local accent and a slightly lyrical tone.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Deliverance possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Deliverance has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
There are ten separate nations on Deliverance, most of which are some form of oligarchy or dictatorship, where the leader uses the title of King or Grand Duke. Tech Levels across the world range from TL–4 to TL–6. The most advanced nation is Virginia (at approximately TL–6), though it competes with Carolina (still at an advanced TL–5).
World Military[edit]
Each nation maintains a large standing army and all maritime nations have some kind of ocean-going navy. Each nation's military branches has some kind of an aerial element, which may be as complex as jet aircraft or as simple as dirigibles and balloons. Liquid fuels are expensive to produce or import and there are no natural hydrocarbon reservoirs that can be tapped.
World Law (L)[edit]
Deliverance has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
Deliverance is largely agrarian, taking advantage of the near year-round growing season and high carbon-dioxide atmosphere. Despite the large oceans, there is little native sea-life suitable for aquaculture. Those aquatic species that currently proliferate were transplanted to the world and can subsist on the local algae and brill-/krill-analogues.
Power, until recently, was either muscle-based or steam-based, with dried plant husks providing the chemical energy. The centralized power plants have been largely converted to inexpensive molten-salt fission reactors (MSR). These plants have necessitated a new area of the mining industry as pitchblende and its components Uranium, Plutonium, and Thorium were previously regarded as useless.
- Resources: 6 (few)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: 3 (very limited)
- Efficiency: -2 (fair)
World Culture[edit]
Within the culture of Deliverance, the people are stratified into socio-economic classes, loosely analogous to those of the Terran Western European Medieval eras. Broadly, these consist of the rulers of the various nations and their families, the families of high-ranking military personnel, the professional classes, the service classes, and finally the agricultural classes. Travellers are generally treated as the lowest class, unless there is good reason to grant respect.
- Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 6 (very distinct)
- Symbols: 4 (concrete)
