Tiajama is a nonindustrial fluid world.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Cybele Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • This is a hot world, with a climate of high temperatures.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Tiajama is a hot, tidally locked, exotic atmosphere world.

  • The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
  • The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

The hot-pole is the 0° latitude and the cold-pole is the 180° latitude. The 0° longitude point ("line") is the revolutional trailing point on the twilight zone, with positive longitudes moving into the hot zone, and negative longitudes moving into the cold zone, both meeting at the 180° point (the revolutional spinward point).

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Tiajama is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Tiajama has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Tiajama has 55-65% of its surface covered by hydrocarbons, ranging from methane thru dectane, depending on the local environmental conditions. Wilderness refueling is not possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.

  • Over half the surface is covered by an a mixture hydrocarbon liquids in the C7 to C10 range.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

There are four large landmasses and several isolated archipelagoes. A small icecap of water-ice is situated on the far dark face, surrounded by the HC ocean, which near the the icepack is generally arranged with heavy tars at the seafloor. Denser, heavier oils lie above that, then lighter hydrocarbons, with a thin layer of propane at the surface. This progression order remains as one moves thru the twilight zone, with the lighter hydrocarbons boiling off as the ocean temperature increases. The oceans on the hot face tend to be the heaver oils and tars, with the atmosphere containing a mixture of the evaporated lighter materials.

There is considerable mixing in the hydrosphere and atmosphere due to the strong katabatic wind patterns.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

There several deposits of unique mineral catalysts that concatenate hydrocarbon compounds up thru a maximum size. These catalysts have apparently converted the original methane atmosphere into what the pre-Contact Terrans called either petroleum or gasoline.

Even a cursory glance at the world-net news shows that most crime centers around business fraud and professional ethical failures: physical violence is very rare.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Tiajama has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Tiajama downport is located at a wobble-point in the planetary twilight zone, such that daylight varies throughout the planetary year. It is located on a small continent located at the trailing point (0° longitude) to minimize the odds of impacts.

It has substantial support for large cargo vessels and fluids transport. Designated lift areas are in use which use anti-grav pulse technology to aid large cargo craft in their initial acceleration, albeit in a narrow vertical column. Landing areas have permanent piping in place for a variety of standard hydrocarbon deliveries. Storage is distributed, enfiladed, and underground to minimize disruptions.

The local starport bar is "The Gas Station", and offers free drinks to Scout personnel made from local ethane stocks Personal advice is to be very careful with the free drinks, and tip your server well.

World Population (P)[edit]

Tiajama has a population of 10,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Urbanization[edit]

Tiajama City is located around 10 km away from the downport, within the twilight zone. It is a series of connected TL–10 structures with large interior spaces with an artificial diurnal light cycle. There are separate residential structures with quick access to educational and commercial areas.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Tiajama possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Tiajama is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

The government is explicitly focused on environmental continuity, citizen opportunity, scientific and engineering research, and encouraging trade.

World Law (L)[edit]

Tiajama has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]

The world's economy is based on hydrocarbon collection, chemical separation and chemical engineering, plastics production, materials science engineering, and robotics. Exports include hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon derivatives, high-grade plastics, and specialty chemicals. Imports include food, plant species, equipment and components, manufactured goods, metals, electronics, and robotics equipment.

World Culture[edit]

Tiajaman culture descends from Solomani and Quesadan cultures, but takes a spicy turn from the fact that the original settlers had a strong adventuring spirit. The population seems to always be in motion, even in their off-shift hours. The population is well-educated, personally motivated, and focused on improvement.

The fortnight calendar was adopted locally to regulate activity cycles, and corresponds to the standard year, not the planetary year. It follows a 15-day fortnight pattern of 5 work days, 3 weekend days, 5 work days, 2 weekend days. Standard end of season days are tacked on to extend the final 2-day weekends to 3-day weekends in a regular pattern. This pattern balances the work-weekend days in a 2:1 ratio.

  • Work shifts are 6 hours, with 1st shift starting at local 9h. While this shift schedule was evidently designed to ensure that the population was not overworked, it is only a partial success as many citizens work extra half-shifts to achieve professional goals, though those half-shifts are often executed from their residential areas.

People seem to have a regular career position, plus either a "side-hustle" or an educational pursuit. The government support a comprehensive educational opportunity culture, where citizens are afforded educational opportunities at no additional charge beyond their taxes. Educational research is an ongoing focus with researchers both seeking out new effective educational techniques and developing and collecting data on their local implementation. Innovation is encouraged to the limits of safety constraints; certain research is limited to scientific and engineering structures deliberately set outside the City proper.

All this is provided for by relatively high tax rates on businesses and personal income. Prices remain largely low due to the low cost of raw materials, and the success of many of the local materials industries.
