Cybele is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Cybele Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Cybele has a solitary primary star.
- It is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Cybele is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Cybele has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences relatively high temperatures.
Cybelean humans are adapted to breathing the thin atmosphere. They can relatively easily adapt to standard pressures, but dense atmospheres may require them to use respirators.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Cybele has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Most of the surface of Cybele is covered by a deep, relatively warm world-ocean. There is a single major continental landmass, a number of subcontinents, and a plethora of archipelagoes and islands. The continent has three very large, very clearly visible impact craters across its center. The world has small polar icecaps.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The major continental landmass and large subcontinental islands have ubiquitous plant life, including dense jungles and forests, and are inhabited by a wide variety of creatures. The oceans are home to countless types of marine organisms, some of which are extremely large.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Cybele has a fully developed, if low-tech, world economy. There is a focus on agriculture and aquaculture, as the large population has nearly reached the point where it cannot feed itself. Nuclear fission reactors are a new development for this civilization, and the government is fully funding a wide-spread rollout of the technology. Electricity is common and reliable in the cities, and there is a booming trade in electrical devices for the home and office. Telephones or "hand-tubes" are common in the modern buildings, but are only available in the older building at a substantial cost to retrofit.
Increased contact with the Confederation seems to have initiated a great deal of innovation.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Cybele has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Cybele downport is located inland from the Capitol on what was an isolated, dry plateau. Recently, a steam locomotive track has been laid to the basic Confederation downport.
A Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) hostel exists within the downport. Travellers are encouraged to check in and receive the latest updates on local conditions.
World Population (P)[edit]
Cybele has a population of 2,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
Most cities are found on the coastlines or in the mountain valleys where water is plentiful. Older structures are being rapidly replaced with TL–6-TL–7 constructions that provide indoor plumbing, proper waste disposal, and a reliable energy supply. Many older structures that depend on cesspits, lamps, fireplaces, and wells still exist.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
- Cybelean Anglic, a local dialect of Rim Anglic widely taught in schools.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Cybele possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Cybele is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.
The head of the Cybelean state is King Reggion II, formerly Prince Regus. He is a much anticipated King: his father was considered foolish, wasteful, and often cruel. Thus far, the new monarch has outdone his father, and has ordered his government effectively.
World Military[edit]
The armed force of Cybele are divided into three branches - the Army, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Command.
The King's Guard are the elite of the Army and form a distinct Corps under direct Royal command. The Guard are divided into two distinct forces, the Royal Protectors and the Royal Bodyguard. The Royal Protectors are a moderately-size force, armed with ornately carved automatic rifles and revolvers, and often seen wearing half-plate armor. They are most often used to address civil unrest or insurrection and specialize in handing natural disasters. They are also a glamorous addition to parade routes. The Royal Bodyguard is a smaller force, but they have been equipped with advanced off-world automatic pistols firing standard ammunition, advanced-alloy swords, laser carbines, and ballistic cloth armor.
The King's Guard uses motorized vehicles for troop deployments, and uses a mixture of rigid-frame dirigibles, propeller-driven, and jet-powered aircraft according to mission. They field no heavy armored vehicles and only limited types of artillery.
World Law (L)[edit]
Cybele has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
