• The world's agricultural industry is growing and some economists forecast an explosion in this world's agribusiness in the near future as new agro-technology and a more capable labor force are imported.
• This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
• This world has high-grade living conditions with a good climate and a non-harmful environment. As such, this world is much sought after with large queues for immigration here.
• It is a member of the Grand United States of Quesada, which is a member state of the Solomani Confederation, in the Quesada Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

• This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.

Colima is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Colima has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

• It experiences generally moderate temperatures.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Colima has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Colima is an older world but its core remains hot, containing significant quantities of decaying radioactives. This powers tectonic movement and an unusually strong planetary magnetic field.

Native Lifeforms

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

A notable local lifeform is the Malantea, a 30 kg arachnidoid with ten legs, four of which are specialized as manipulators, and a four-wing array which is strong enough to allow periods of hovering. While not considered a sophont, they are exceptionally smart and cunning. Estimates of their intelligence are conflicting.

History & Background (Dossier)

Colima is a recently re-contacted culture. Most citizens associate themselves with a particular city, which in turn have relationships with other cities. Philosophical and cultural events are held as a means of sharing ideas. With re-contact, a huge upsurge of interest in star travel and other cultures has arisen.

The Church of Quesada has a bishopric here, but it apparently has made little headway in converting the largely agnostic and atheistic citizenry here, who prefer philosophy and science. While they keep a low profile, the Quesadan Inquisition is known to be active on the world. It is a religiously sponsored investigative agency that is charged with rooting out heretical thinking. It has the authority to detain and question individuals.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)

Colima has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Colima Downport and its associated startown are approximately 50 km inland from the city of Lima.

World Population (P)

Colima has a population of 100,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

Urbanization

Urban centers tend to be located along rivers or coasts, and are constructed using TL–5 and TL–6 techniques. One exception is the coastal city of Lima, which has been rebuilding itself with the infusion of resources from the Quesadan Church.

• Coliman, a local language descended from Anglic.
• Latin, an ancient Terran language used by the Church of Quesada.
• Quesadan Spanish, an Iberian Dialect of the Spanish subfamily of languages of Terran origin spoken principally in the Grand United States of Quesada.
• Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
  • It is a second language within the Grand United States.

Colima possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

Colima is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

Colima has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
