Vapor is a barren water world with no overt population, government, or law level.
- Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
- Any inhabitants of this world would need to live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
- It is a member of the Solomani Preserve in the Old Perch Subsector of Thaku Fung Sector.
- This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left, leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
The majority of worlds in the Imperium and beyond, officially at least, do not yet know of the existence of the Solomani Preserve – the Preserve has gone to great lengths to keep its presence concealed. According to the most up-to-date Imperial AAB Library Data, drawn from long-range surveys dated to around 1100, this is a barren, non-aligned, unclaimed world lying in an uninhabited wilderness region on the very edge of Charted Space. On most official Imperial records its UWP is listed as:
Thaku Fung 2114 X62A000-0 Ba Wa 010 NaXX F1 V D
Note that formal relations were established with the Imperium in 1105 via the Imperial Scout Base at Geokha. This included an exchange of data, including each member system's updated Universal World Profile, but it is likely to be years or decades before this information fully disseminates across Charted Space. Until then, many databases will continue to include the outdated pre-1105 survey data.
Stellar Data
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data
Mainworld Size (S)
Vapor is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Vapor has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Vapor has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms
Abundant almost entirely aquatic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
Vapor is a Die Back World. Over the centuries, various outposts have been located on this world. Some have served as military or scientific facilities, while others were the sites of survey bases or resource extraction operations. Some have long been derelict while others were abandoned or deliberately shut down as the local population evacuated ahead of the approaching Empress Wave. In such cases, for whatever reason, the former residents have not returned.
- These are favorite locations for adventurers and treasure seekers, among others. A wealth of valuable artifacts can be found by those willing to skirt laws which assert that the state or an organization has possession of such objects, rather than the individual who recovered them.
Vapor is one of the three "egg worlds" of the Solomani Preserve, the other two being Havensmith and Anagathica. It was the third colonized, in the early -1500s; from then until -777 these three would be the totality of the Preserve's inhabited worlds (excluding Bridgeholm, far off and keeping to itself during this time).
It was always the poor cousin to the two other eggs. Havensmith had almost all the people. Anagathica had the incredibly important, life-preserving anagathics. Vapor was the only one of the three with lanthanum, which was vital to manufacturing more ships that could jump from star to star, but this was mainly in its asteroid belt; the colony itself was there to support belt miners. Belt mining produced other ores as well, and at first seemed like it might be Vapor's ticket to a developing economy, but over time the VoidBridges eclipsed Vapor's output, lowering the prices until belt mining was largely unprofitable. Efforts to introduce aquaculture for export met with mild success, generating just enough revenue to keep the colony from being completely abandoned.
Vapor was merely there when the Preserve began populating other worlds in -777. It was all but irrelevant when, in 1, the Preserve discovered sophontic life spinward of itself and opened up that area to colonization. Certain historians with a poetic bent say there was a sigh of relief when the Empress Wave "forced" evacuation in the 1050s; there could easily have been low berth vaults set up to sleep through the Wave, but almost everybody chose to simply leave, and the few who did not were consciously choosing death.
As of 1105 there is debate about whether, despite its proximity to Havensmith, Vapor may be the last evacuated Solomani Preserve colony that will be repopulated. Also, rumors that the Wave pushed some of the aquaculture livestock into sophontic territory have yet to be confirmed or denied, as that would require surveying each population including any that have escaped into the wilds (most problematically including the deep oceans). The wildest of these rumors claim that deliberate experiments in uplift had been conducted in secret for over a century, using the relative anonymity of Vapor as cover, kicked into high gear after the Wave was discovered.
It is a Danger World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
World Starport (St)
Vapor does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
World Population (P)
Vapor is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.
World Technology Level (T)
Vapor has a die back Tech Level of TL–0: the buildings, facilities and infrastructure that exist on the world have largely been stripped of valuable materials and machinery, remaining as empty shells ready to be refurbished. Some structures have become derelict or collapsed.
- The world has no functioning technological base.
Salvage
- Basic raw materials such as worked stone. There may be concealed caches of equipment, manufactured items, or supplies carefully stored away for future usage.
World Government (G)
Vapor has no government or ruling authority of any kind.
World Law (L)
Vapor has no law level. No laws of any kind are enforced.

World Timeline
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- -9235: to rimward the Vilani discover jump drive technology. Over the centuries pioneers and settlers gradually spread across the core regions of Charted Space.
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka controls vast territories.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -3700s onwards: waves of Vargr settle worlds across the Extents. Due to its vast distance from the core regions few Vargr ever reached the sector.
- -2431: Terrans discover jump drive technology.
- -2404 to -2215: the Interstellar Wars. The young Terran Confederation battles against and ultimately triumphs over the ancient Vilani Ziru Sirka.
- -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man administers the former Ziru Sirka.
- -1862 to -1110: the Terran Mercantile Community controls the former territory of the Terran Confederation.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression and some worlds become barren.
- circa -1700: Vargr expansion and settlement gradually ceases.
- -1690: Solomani colonists depart Terran space.
- -1685: the Solomani Preserve is founded.
- circa -200: Vargr expansion increases, with a few worlds being settled within the subsectors along the sector's rimward fringe. The Break Worlds region is more stringently enforced.
- The Year 0: far to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- circa 1040: the Empress Wave, believed to be a bizarre, massive jumpspace anomaly, enters the coreward edge of the sector.
It travels at around 1 parsec per year in a rimward direction, leaving a wake of disruption and chaos as it passes. - 1065: the Second Survey is published.
- circa 1080: the Empress Wave exits the rimward edge of the sector.
