Weiss is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Glisten Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
  • This world is controlled by Glisten.
  • Weiss is a member of the Spinward Main.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Weiss is considered bleak and harsh, with most of the hydrographic percentage tied up in the two large icecaps.

It orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zone's colder outer H- region.
  • It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Weiss is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Weiss has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Weiss has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Weiss was colonized in 990, following the Third Frontier War, by a group of Sword Worlds dissidents. Recent problems have stemmed from the fact that the inhabitants have more sympathy for the Sword Worlds, the homeland of their ancestors, than they have for the Imperium.

Glisten pre-emptively assumed control of the planet in 1104, and tension has remained high since. The local language is a form of Germanic rather than Anglic, and persons addressing the inhabitants in Anglic outside the controlled spaceport district are likely to find trouble.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Weiss has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Weiss has a population of 70,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Urbanization[edit]

Individual settlements outside the spaceport tend to cluster around a pressurized greenhouse. Most surface travel is by tracked vehicle.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are most commonly heard:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Weiss possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Weiss has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

The world is effectively controlled by Glisten.

Spinward DevCorp.jpg

Weiss is owned by Spinward Development Corp. It is a typical SDC development, a backwater world supporting corporate teams and a steady trickle of colonists. Diverse SDC plans include a major starport to encourage trade, as well as mining and industry on-planet. This total corporate ownership has resulted in an amber-zone declaration for non-SDC travelers, at the request of the corporation.[2]

World Law (L)[edit]

Weiss has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Weiss, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 9 (moderate)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
