Rebin Empire
The Rebin Empire was a pocket empire located in Massilia Sector during the Long Night.
- It was a Matriarchal society and state.
- It collapsed prior to the founding of the Imperium.
- Its former member worlds had been absorbed by the Imperium before the Pacification Campaigns began.
Description / Specifications[edit]
Overview[edit]
During the Long Night the Rebin Empire had member worlds throughout Keum Subsector of Massilia Sector.
Multiple other worlds, some beyond the borders of the subsector, fell within its sphere of influence.
A basic chart showing the Empire at its maximum extent, during the later years of the Long Night (right):
- Member worlds of the Empire are shown in brighter green.
- The region of Rebin influence is depicted in darker green. These were referred to as Provinces.
Member worlds of the Empire had to have Matriarchal governments. Worlds with mixed gender or male-dominated governmental systems were considered Provincial Worlds and afforded a lower status and less inherent rights.
Though the region has long been part of the Imperium, many of its worlds retain a distinctive Rebin culture. This includes styles of dress, cultural beliefs, a wide array of local cuisine and regional dishes, traditional music and dance, impressive architecture, and the "romantic" Rebin Accent.
Greater Massilia Main[edit]
The Empire followed the trailing regions of the Greater Massilia Main. Its sphere of influence covered the whole of the Outer Loop and Keum Cluster regions, and parts of The Great Loop and Yagas Arm regions.

- Worlds on the Main are highlighted in green.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Rebin Empire's member worlds -- as well as worlds associated with it -- benefitted from trade agreements and defense policies imposed by the Empire, but many struggled with the Empire's unilateral decision-making, interference in their internal affairs, and occasional military interventions. The Empire gradually disintegrated in the centuries before the founding of the Third Imperium. During this time the interstellar trade it guaranteed trailed off and many of the worlds the Empire had overseen became depopulated.
- Despite its many shortcomings, the Empire was broadly considered a force for good and most worlds are proud of their association with it.
- The many worlds the Empire controlled or interacted with retain a strong Rebin cultural flavor to the present day.
Demographics[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) resided within the Empire:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Mixed heritage (Major Race): Widely spread across the Trace.
- Solomani (Major Race): Many genetically distinct individuals and communities.
- Vilani (Major Race): Many genetically distinct individuals and communities.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages were:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
Both Anglic and Vilani were spoken with the distinctive Rebin accent.
Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
The powerful matriarchy of Rebin dates as far back as any historical records exist. Historically, males constituted a servant class and did not marry into permanent families. Children were raised and educated by female governesses until age eight, when the boys were sent to men's barracks to be trained for their future duties. Science, art, and administration were entirely in the hands of women. Men were generally not literate beyond the most basic needs of laborers.
- This traditional social structure persisted throughout the years of the Third Imperium. In later years there was an increasingly vocal and influential Equal Rights movement.
Symbols[edit]
The Empire used a pentafoil symbol, said to represent either the five original colony worlds or the five distinct full member regions. It is still widely used.
Laws & Customs[edit]
Throughout the region that the Rebin Empire dominated females are generally considered dominant and occupy most leadership roles. Males are expected to be subservient.
Most of the Rebin worlds have notably high law levels, a remnant of controlling a large and subjugated part of the population. Male traders and visitors find the Matriarchs difficult to deal with. Most organizations and firms send female representatives to do business.
- Female "fixers" who specialize in interpersonal and administrative interactions can be hired at most starports and large cities.

Later Historical Eras[edit]
Rebellion & New Era[1][edit]
The Rebin Worlds were the former heartland of the Rebin Empire and shared a heritage, culture, and traditions going back over thousands of years. During the Golden Age of the Imperium this generated trillions of credits annually through Tourism.
The Rebin Worlds have a far stricter adherence to the Matriarchal culture of the old Rebin Empire than other worlds of the region, including male servitude and an almost exclusively female leadership. This cultural and gender bias quickly crystallized as violent opposition to Lucan's suspicious claim to the Imperial throne, the denunciation of Dulinor as a murderous criminal, and openly stating their collective preference for Margaret.
Prolonged military campaigns first by Dulinor and then by Lucan have left several major cities on these worlds in ruins and untold millions dead. Later in the Rebellion, the worlds "claimed" to support Lucan, but the numerous outbreaks of violence perpetrated on Lucan's occupation forces said otherwise.
The status of the worlds following the Collapse is unknown.
The Rebin Worlds consisted of:
- Abarre (a Rebin colony world)
- Enrique (a Rebin colony world)
- Ergo (a Rebin colony world)
- Naston (a Rebin colony world)
- Rebin (The Rebin homeworld)
- Shigi (a Rebin colony world)
The worlds were sometimes collectively termed The Empire or the Empire Worlds. Colony World was an anachronistic historical title, recalling the status of the worlds during the Long Night.
Three of the five so-called colony worlds (Enrique, Ergo, and Abarre) have vacuum environments, with their populations living under domes or underground. The fourth world, Naston, has an ellipsoid atmosphere, breathable only in the colder latitudes, and Shigi, the fifth, requires filter masks. Despite these harsh conditions, the "colony worlds" hold the bulk of the "Empire's" population, while the pleasant homeworld is artificially restricted to the estates of ruling nobles and their servants.

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds that were full members of the former Rebin Empire is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
