Rebin is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Keum Subsector of Massilia Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the Outer Loop region of the Greater Massilia Main.
- During the Rule of Man this world was known as Ande.
- Throughout the Long Night it was the capital of the Rebin Empire.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Rebin is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
Binary Solar System
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rebin is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rebin has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rebin has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rebin is a member of the Outer Loop region of the Greater Massilia Main, a major Main and important trade route lying across parts of Massilia Sector and Zarushagar Sector.
The Rebin Empire[edit]
During the Long Night Rebin was the capital and cultural heart of the Rebin Empire. It enforced trade agreements and defense policies on the worlds around it, it monitored and regulated activities of all kinds in the region, it occasionally used its military to enforce its will, and it expected others to adhere to its policies on gender and gender roles. The Empire gradually disintegrated in the centuries before the founding of the Third Imperium, with interstellar trade slowly dying off and some of the worlds it had overseen becoming depopulated.
- Many of the worlds that the Empire controlled or interacted with still have a noticeable Rebin cultural flavor.
- Despite its many shortcomings, the Rebin Empire was generally considered a force for good and most worlds are proud of their association with it.
At the dawn of the Imperium Rebin technically had no permanent population, with the hereditary nobles of the Empire who once made up the majority of the population having withdrawn to private (and largely self-sufficient) estates less reliant on interstellar trade for survival. The palaces, villas, governmental buildings and infrastructure on the world were maintained by a corps of caretakers specially chosen for the role and rotated in every few months, but they were not considered residents.
- Rebin's old nobility gradually relocated back to the world during the first century. They continue its longstanding Rebin culture and traditions.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Rebin has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Rebin has a population of 20,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
Locals speak with a distinctive Rebin accent.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Rebin possesses a Technology Level of TL–15 or TL-F in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Meson Communicators and Pseudo Reality Communications.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, improved collectors, and advanced Fusion+.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Advanced gravcraft.
- Air: Advanced gravcraft and speeders.
- Space: Advanced gravcraft and G-Carriers.
- FTL: Jump Drive-6.
World Government (G)[edit]
Rebin is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
During the Long Night Rebin had a matriarchal government, with all offices of state and positions of authority controlled by females. Despite a brief hiatus at the end of the Long Night, the same government continues to the present day.
World Law (L)[edit]
Rebin has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
The world has many laws regarding gender status and gender roles, which generally subjugate males. The punishments for transgressions or committing offenses are unusually severe.
- These laws are an anachronism from the Rebin Empire.
- There is an active equal rights movement.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Rebin, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 1 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 4 (very limited)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
The world retains a strongly matriarchal culture. As well as inequality in pay and recompense, males often find that opportunities and roles open to females are not available to them. Males may find it hard to get service or representation without a female escort to speak on their behalf. Visiting males are expected to adhere to the world's social norms and face the same penalties as locals if they break them.
- Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
- Symbols: E (extremely abstract)
