Rahu is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.
- This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Sephi Hydra Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- It is a member of the Simonides Run.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Notes[edit]
The two stars of the Rahu system have an average separation of 243 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.
- Both stars have elliptical orbits around one another, with an average orbital eccentricity (e) of 0.15.
- They have an orbital period around one another of 4,950 standard years.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Rahu is tidally locked to the system's primary star.
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits within the prime region of its star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rahu is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rahu has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rahu has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
The Rahu system is old, likely in excess of 7 Gyrs in age, and the mainworld shows distinct signs of its antiquity. It is tidally locked, its planetary core is only warm, and its atmosphere has been stripped by the constant stellar wind streaming off of the star. Its tallest mountain ranges are little more than weathered hills and the dark face is crusted in a permanent layer of frost and water-ice.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- In past billennia, the world had a lush and thriving ecosystem.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rahu is a member of the Simonides Run, a cluster and locally important trade route.
The world has a small population living in a tightly knit community, highly focused around exploiting their "strike" – and their Strike is indeed a very substantial. The main Strike is a exposed mass of nearly pure platinum metal, associated with inclusions of rare-earth metals, located at the edge of a huge impact crater: since its discovery a reinforced protective structure has been placed around it. The Second Strike lies at the center of said impact crater and consists of a mostly buried mass of metallic gold and radioactives, also with its own protective structure.
These Strikes were discovered by a retired Scout named Rahu Beakman (SReg#11020329446) who was able to register the world and his find. He then recruited his family, friends, and associates, and successfully petitioned the Confederation to allow settlement and mining. The Solomani provided a basic Class C downport and standard vacuum habitats, and once they were in place Rahu and his group began mining and export operations. Since then the habitats have been significantly upgraded, and efforts are being made to purchase more advanced equipment and infrastructure from Simonides.
The people here are generally very defensive and realistically fear that their find might be taken from them. Each family unit seems to be financially well-off and heavily armed, and yet there seems to be little crime. Most differences seemed to be settled by a series of councils (and the occasional fistfight). Outsiders are not trusted, and there are a handful of late-comers that have been resident for a years but are only now being invited to councils.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Rahu has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Rahu has a population of 2,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
Urbanization[edit]
Rahuan is the planetary urban center, lying around 10 km from Rahu downport and connected to it by a heavy rail link. Both communities are located in a sheltered region along the twilight zone and are clearly marked by standard beacons.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Rahu possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Rahu is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law (L)[edit]
Rahu has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
The worlds principal exports are metals and metal ingots. Imports include technological items, heavy equipment, foodstuffs, and luxuries.
- Resources: D (very abundant)
- Labor: 2 (hundreds)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
