L'oeul d'Dieu is a water world with a breathable, habitable atmosphere. The population is in the hundreds of thousands of sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Aramis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. L'oeul d'Dieu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. L'oeul d'Dieu is a nonindustrial, pre-rich water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- Its economy is growing and living conditions are expected to rise in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Aramis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It is a member of the Aramis Trace.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu is a binary star system.
- The primary is a yellow main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences moderate to high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
A map of L'oeul d'Dieu showing the world-ocean and the various islands and archipelagos that dot the surface.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant aquatic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu is a water world under the aegis of Sharurshid, a MegaCorporation specializing in rare trade goods. Sharurshid obtains a variety of exotic seafoods and other products from this world. There has been much pressure to have the world opened up for settlement, but Sharurshid, fearing damage to the local ecosystem, has resisted. The Starport on a small sea tower is the only planetary area where non-employees are allowed.[2] Naasirka has transport line offices on this world. [3]
The name of the world derives from an ancient Francophone dialect, which renders "L'œil de Dieu" as "The Eye of God", which was a symbol often represented in ancient iconography as an eye peering thru a triangular opening perched atop a pyramidal structure. It is interesting to note that the Helix Nebula in the Vanguard Reaches was also once known as "The Eye of God" to the ancient Solomani. Whether or not there is a connection between the two remains uncertain and has almost certainly been obscured by time.
World Starport (St)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Naval Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu has a population of 500,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Riftian Galanglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
World Law (L)[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
L'oeul d'Dieu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the estate of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial baronet.
