Talk:L'oeul d'Dieu (world)

The system is centered on binary stars, a yellow G-type and a tiny red M-type lying approximately 0.18 AU apart and orbiting a barycenter located just within the primary. Both of the stars are ovoid, though the red star has a far more pronounced shape - the vertexes bulge towards each companion. The red star is active and periodically experiences flare activity. L'oeul d'Dieu is the second of four rocky worlds orbiting the stars. The inner three worlds all lie within the habitable zone, but both the innermost and the outermost are barren vacuum balls of rock: only the mainworld, orbiting just beyond the prime region of the habitable zone, retains an atmosphere and hydrosphere. All of the worlds have distinctly elliptical orbits. The outer of the four rocky worlds is a frigid ball of rock with a trace nitrogen atmosphere, while a large gas giant and a tiny outer ice giant mark the fringe of the system. Two of the LGGs moons have corporate research facilities located on them and both have been declared off limits to casual visitors. The nature of the research has not been revealed but both moons are known to have sub-ice oceans of liquid water.

L'oeul d'Dieu was originally named L'oeil d'Dieu (Old Terran French for The eye of God), but this appears to have been misspelt during the First Survey. The "wrong" name is the one that has perpetuated. The name refers to two vast concentric rings of islands, the remnants of a huge impact that occurred many millions of years in the past, that dominate the surface of the world. The oceans on the world are deep - on average, hundreds of kilometers, and the islands are extremely tall relative to their surface area. A second smaller impact scar, known as Le Petit Oeil, lies in the southern hemisphere. L'oeul d'Dieu has a low density and a relatively low gravity for its size, but it has an extremely strong magnetosphere. When the red star undergoes a period of flare activity, the skies light up with vast ethereal aurora.

The world is controlled by the Megacorporation Sharurshid, which severely restricts access to the surface, ostensibly to protect the exotic seafoods it harvests - only the downport, located on a large island, is open to surface landings. There is a large orbital port that houses the majority of the system's population as well as the navy base. The three marked zones on the surface, honestly, currently no idea. The navy zone could be a training facility (Sharurshid is unlikely to permit weapons testing or similar on a world where stocks of wildlife could be harmed). The Vilani-named sites could merely be important fisheries, or they could be something more ... interesting. Whatever the case, "site" is definitely an odd name to apply.
