Description[edit]
The name translates as "Quest Subsector".
Summary[edit]
Karuin, subsector O of Gashikan, contains 35 worlds with an estimated combined population of 30 billion, a per capita income of Cr3,168, and a total economy of BCr96,731. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr382 through 28 starports (6 Class A, 9 Class B, 10 Class C, 3 Class D) employing 46,680 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, five Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, two Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, four Rich (Ri) worlds, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Karuin maintain 13 Scout bases and four Naval bases. The average technology level is 7 (with most between 4 and 9). The highest technology level is 12 at Ambiikhar (Gashikan 2333).
Karuin, subsector O of Gashikan, contains 64 stars and 338 identified planets; 18 monostellar systems, ten binary systems, two trinary systems, and five systems with four or more stars. 28 of the 35 systems (80%) have native gas giants. There are one Asteroid (As) belt, two Desert (De) worlds, two Garden (Ga) worlds, no Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, two Poor (Po) worlds, three Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.
Karuin has an estimated population of 30 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, four Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 17 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Ashirdagii (Gashikan 2137). The population consists primarily of 1 sophont group.

The highest population world is Ashirdagii (Gashikan 2137). The population consists primarily of 1 sophont group; Humans of mixed Vilani-Yilean-Solomani descent.
Julian Protectorate, Commonwealth of Mendan[edit]
The Julian Protectorate, Commonwealth of Mendan has jurisdiction over one world with an estimated population of 7 billion, a per capita income of Cr3,204, and a total economy of BCr22,432. Astrographic Features & Trade Routes: 1105[edit]
The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this area:
The Nudashiir Lagani[edit]
A number of worlds in the subsector lie on the Nudashiir Lagani, the great Lishun-Gashikan Main.
- An eclectic mix of vessels, both human and Vargr, work their ways along the Main, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Worlds on the Main are highlighted in green.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Gashikan Empire's Ministry of Information and Safety (MIS) holds much of the power here, albeit unofficially. The Ministry's ostensible mission is to prevent the spread of damaging Vargr propaganda, and to promote peace and unity throughout the Empire. To accomplish these goals, its agents maintain careful control of all news and information.

Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are among the most commonly encountered in this astrographic region:
- Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds; in this region, mostly variant dialects.
- Julian Anglic: An official language of the Julian Protectorate, immediately to rimward, and seeing some use in Gashikan.
- Modern Gashikan borrows heavily from Anglic.
- Modern Gashikan: The primary language of the Third Empire of Gashikan, influenced heavily by Anglic and Vilani.
- Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds.
- Modern Gashikan borrows heavily from Vilani.
- Wawa-pakekeke-wawa: The common, precise and bureaucratic language of the Bwaps. Spoken on Bwap-dominated planets and by government functionaries on any world lucky enough to retain a dedicated Bwap workforce.
Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this subsector:
- -3810: The Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -3700s onwards: Waves of Vargr settle worlds across the region.
- -2404 to -2215: The human Interstellar Wars rage to rimward.
- -2235 to -2219: A family of Solomani traders, the Menderes, establish lucrative trade routes along the Mendan Main.
- -1776 to 0: The Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- -1700 onward: Vargr expansion and settlement gradually ceases.
- -1658: The Sack of Gashikan, an atrocity known throughout the coreward parts of Charted Space.
- -1483 to -321: The Gashikan Race Wars rage between human and Vargr extremists across the Extents.
- -321: Karik Menderes of Menderes Corporation raises all Menderes Vargr to the status of employees.
- This starts a movement that makes slavery illegal on Asimikigir by -302.
- -275: Tran Menderes breaks precedent by accepting a Vargr offer to carry Menderes goods off planet. Until now, Kudukara Lines, the principle transport line of the Second Empire of Gashikan, has carried all goods for the region.
- The Year 0: to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- circa 26: to spinward, the Empire of Varroerth is founded.
- (175 to 191): Julian War; the region unites to fight off the Third Imperium as it attempts to incorporate Amdukan, Mendan and Meshan sectors by force.
- Early 600s: After centuries of increasingly common peaceful (if wary) interaction, the Hhkar Sphere joins the Julian Protectorate.
- 933-936: The defection of the Damlaer Union from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony of Lorean leads to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
- 940: As part of this political upheaval, the government of the Ikonaz Sphere collapses, replaced by the Rukadukaz Republic.
- 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.
- 1070: The Second Empire of Gashikan is shattered by civil war.
- In the aftermath, while many Gashikan systems recoalesce into the Third Empire of Gashikan, others form the Commonwealth of Mendan and instead join the Julian Protectorate.
