Ianic is a rich, nonindustrial desert world with no free-standing water.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This world is rich with high-grade living conditions, a good climate, and a non-harmful environment. Immigration registration for this world is always in high demand.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Lunion Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- It has a population of Jonkeereen.
- Ianic is a member of the Spinward Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Notes[edit]
The two stars of the Ianic system have an average separation of 0.03 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.
- They have an orbital period around one another of approximately 2.8 standard days.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Ianic has a circumbinary orbit, circling around both stars and receiving their combined energy output.
It orbits towards the outer edge of the two stars' combined habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Ianic is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Ianic has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
- Ianic is a cool world with a standard oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Ianic has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Most of Ianic's surface is windswept chilly desert without extensive mineral wealth. Overall, much of the planet is not habitable without starship-grade recycling and imports of fresh water and food.
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying most available ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms thrive in low temperatures and arid conditions.
An important industry on Ianic centers on the isolated ranches that raise Slindi, a large warm-blooded lizard-like creature adapted to desert environments.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Despite its harsh environment and isolated location, Ianic supports a population numbering in the millions, including a sizable number of Jonkeereen, a genetically engineered race of humans adapted for desert-world survival. Most of Ianic's population are spread out across the planetary surface in small towns supported by deep wells or natural watercourses.
The Ianic system plays an important role in the xboat network. The system is used as a storage point for xboats and their supporting tenders that are not in current service throughout the Marches, plus a number of couriers with various capabilities. These communications and support ships orbit one of the system's gas giants, with a central station coordinating all approaches and departures as well as acting as an accommodation center. Backups of all xboat-carried messages are maintained at Ianic's central station.
In 1077 a major seismic occurred on the world. It struck the city of AnRanah and surrounding areas, in the planet's northern hemisphere. There was widespread destruction, much of which remains visible in the present day. Casualties numbered in the thousands.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Ianic has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Ianic has a population of 9,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population includes a large number of Jonkeereen.
Urbanization[edit]
Urban centers are dotted across the world.
- AnRanah is a city in the northern hemisphere.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Ianic possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Ianic is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
World Law (L)[edit]
Ianic has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Ianic, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial baron.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -2 (fair)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 6 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 4 (extremely aloof)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
