Description (Specifications)

Bengal class Carriers were designed for service with the Bain Defense Squadron, the space force of Bain, a world lying in Spica Sector and a member of both the Boötean Federation and the Solomani Confederation. Though the carriers are tiny by the standards of most Solomani Confederation vessels they are occasionally called upon for Federation and Confederation service. Bengals carry a single bay-mounted Heavy Missile Launcher, which is used primarily to bombard enemy targets. They serve as flagships for Fighter groups, typically carrying two small composite squadrons. The vessel is a TL-10 design.

1.	Tonnage	The Bengal class is constructed using a 1,000 Ton hull built in a Close Structure configuration. The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance that is reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. There are 8 airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x23 personnel. x1 Pilot, x1 Navigator, x4 Engineers, x2 Gunners, x1 Medic, x14 Flight Crew. Accommodations There are 11.5 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-1 drive, a Maneuver-2 drive, and a Power Plant-2, giving performance of Jump-1, 2-G acceleration and producing 20 energy points. The ship has an agility rating of 1 and an emergency agility of 2. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-1s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/3 computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.

6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for x1 50-Ton bay, mounting a Heavy Missile Launcher.
7.	Defenses	The hull is unarmored. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x4 19-Ton Aurora class Light Patrol Fighter. x4 23-Ton Hornet class Medium Fighter. x2 61-Ton Constellation class Heavy Fighter. x2 71-Ton Retaliator class Heavy Fighter. The Fighters are housed in a large dedicated hangar with a total volume of 352 Tons: areas of the hangar can be sealed off. The hangars have multiple sets of large doors. The listed Fighters are a typical complement: different combinations may be carried to meet the requirements of specific missions.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 220 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.
