Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance. |
The Valiant Conveyor class Liberty Ship is a TL–11 Freighter.

Description[edit]
These were simple and hastily built vessels. It is a class of civilian transport vessel, pressed into military use to support operations in the Moat Rifts, particularly the Cradle Subsector of the Distant Fringe. Built at Entremis (Halcyon 1204), and designed to be inexpensive with copious cargo capacity for their size.
Various government subcontractors provide prefabricated parts. The vessel is inexpensive, with massive cargo capacity for wartime transport.
Drives and power plants were simple stock units in wide spread use and spare parts were never a problem. It is classified as a Commercial Mercantile Ship and is constructed as a conventional design. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled. They carry enough fuel for two successive jump 1 trips. Its size necessitated the Model/4 computation data core which formed a major portion of the long axis interface and control spine of the vessel, from which modular hull compartments could be fitted. Their modular design made them easy to repair and refit. Battle damage repair and recovery was very fast as a result.
A pair of triple pulse laser turrets are fitted. A bow and stern asteroid sweeper mounts, as they were joking referred to, along the port and starboard flanks a row of ten triple sand caster turrets form the flank defensive batteries intended to thwart laser and missile fire. In practice this proved a bit optimistic when facing Penedur class Destroyers, from the Unity of Sed during the Pacification of Dependent Worlds campaigns.
Occasionally, a pair of 70 dton Fringian Fast Shuttles are used for cargo interface, loading and unloading.
It has a crew of 79. The fastest one of these new spinal columns could be assembled by a talented build crew with adequate robot support was four and half local days. This was not recommended and the typical fit out required 167 weeks, 134 weeks in a hurry.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. Basic Ship Characteristics [2] | ||
---|---|---|
No. | Category | Remarks |
1. | Tonnage / Hull | 15,000 tons.
The Liberty Ship is constructed using a 15,000-dTon hull built in a dispersed structure configuration. The hull is unstreamlined: the ship is equipped with fuel purification to refine fuel acquired by its two shuttles.
|
2. | Crew | x79 crew.
The Valiant Conveyor class Liberty Ship requires x79 crew: x11 command, x11 engineering, x5 gunnery, x7 flight, x30 service and x15 security. There are 16 officers, seven from command, one from engineering, one from gunnery, three from flight, three from service, and one from security. The remaining 63 crew are various ratings of enlisted personnel. Crew is double occupancy for efficient use of space. Modular bunk areas and common areas for food, hygiene and recreation are typical for the enlisted. The crypts contain 110 lowberths for a variety of uses, medical, troop transport, passengers and livestock being some examples. . |
3. | Performance / Engineering | Propulsion:
The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type jump-1 drive, a maneuver-1 drive, and a power plant 1, giving performance of jump-1 and 1G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 0. There is fuel tankage of 3,150 dTons, sufficient for twp jump-1s and giving the power plant four weeks duration. The vessel is fitted with a purification plant.
|
4. | Main Section / Electronics | Model/4 computer.
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/4: the vessel carries no additional backup computer. There are 42 staterooms and 110 low berths, primarily used to transport livestock. Double occupancy accommodations are required for all except the command crew. Cargo capacity amounts to an amazing 10,000 dTons.
|
5. | Hardpoints | x150 hardpoints. |
6. | Armament / Weaponry | The normal weapons fit-out for it is:
There are typically 128 unused hardpoints set aside. Some research into a Q ship variant was discussed but never fully implemented. |
7. | Defenses |
|
8. | Craft / Subcraft | The ship carries a pair of 70 dTon Fringian Shuttles housed in a dedicated dorsal hangar, which is often mistaken for a flying bridge. |
9. | Fuel Treatment | On Board Fuel Purification |
10. | Cost | MCr3,911.319.
The basic cost of the vessel, doesn't include the cost of the Fringian Shuttles.
|
11. | Construction Time | 167 weeks to build, 134 months in quantity. |
12. | Remarks | Designed with a multi-functional modular format for ease of assembly and rapid repair of battle damage.

History & Background[edit]
The Valiant Conveyor class Liberty Ship is optimized for efficient, if not rapid, transport of resources. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces. The design is derived from older TL-10 versions.
