The Last Armada class Heavy Transport is an TL–11 freighter Transport.

Description

The Heavy Transport is a historical design produced in the Terran Confederation during the early 22nd century. These ships fled the Destruction of Terra at the hands of the Vilani Imperium in 2147AD, forming a part of the Last Armada and carrying with them the last remnants of Terran culture and independence. The class were extremely sturdy and reliable and endured more than a century of spaceflight. They ultimately found and settled the Demon Cluster, the Distant Fringe.

1.	Tonnage / Hull	The Personnel Transport is constructed using a 50,000 Ton hull built in a generally Cylindrical configuration. The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance that is reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. There are multiple airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by sets of large doors and has loading ramps. The vessel has hardened and contoured ventral surfaces, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x247 personnel. x11 Command, x65 Engineering, x19 Gunnery, x150 Service (of which 3 serve as Flight Crew as required), and x2 medical Staff Accommodations There are 124 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy. There are 124 long-term Low Berths. These hold the Frozen Watch. The low berths are tended by the vessel's medical staff. It carries 2,000 GenPods and large embryo banks. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There is a large secure locker with a volume of 5 Tons. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-1 drive, and a Power Plant-2, giving performance of Jump-2 and 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-2s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 computer: the vessel has a backup Model/4 computer. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x500 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions. There are 340 unused hardpoints but no space is set aside for additional weapons, mounts and fire control.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Personnel Transport is: x80 triple Beam Laser turrets, typically grouped into eight batteries of 10 linked turrets.
7.	Defenses	The hull is unarmored. x80 triple Sandcaster turrets, typically grouped into eight batteries of 10 linked turrets. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x3 60-Ton Shuttles. The Shuttles are housed in an aft hangar that has a total volume of 234 Tons. The hangars are accessed by large doors.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 21,000 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew. Droptanks Examples of the class are fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-2.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr26,687.888 Architects Fee: MCr266.844
11.	Construction Time	192 weeks (44 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 17,800 Tons. The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems. Sections of the hold may be isolated if desired and can be provided with specialized environmental conditions, typically refrigeration.

History & Background

Heavy Transports were constructed in large numbers at Terran-controlled shipyards throughout the Interstellar Wars period. It was an Auxiliary vessel and was the most common example of large ship acquired by the Expedition. This class of ship is historical – no extant examples are known to exist. They were used to carry the vast amounts of supplies needed by the Last Armada on their perilous voyage into the unknown. A number of examples served as "treasure ships", carrying items and artifacts of Terran cultural or historical significance.
