String of Pearls Subsector is subsector M of Yiklerzdanzh Sector.
- It lies within Charted Space.
- It falls within the Zhodani Shadow.
Description / Specifications[edit]
String of Pearls Subsector is a region of Balkanized Space. Its worlds are fiercely independent.
- The resources of the subsector are gradually being exploited.
Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding String of Pearls Subsector:
- The subsector is an average stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the red giant primary of the Dranshiqlbi' system.
- One trade route, the String of Pearls, crosses the region.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within String of Pearls Subsector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Borealis Group[edit]
The Borealis Group can be seen as a bright, dense, noticeable grouping of stars in the skies to Spinward-rimward.
- It is a huge cluster of stars centered on the supergiant Theta Borealis.
- It is a distinctive astrographic feature that can be observed from all across Charted Space.
The Borealis Group contains significant amounts of gas and dust that reflects and refracts the light of the stars, giving it an ethereal glow.
String of Pearls[edit]
The String of Pearls is a profitable jump-2 trade route that crosses the region.
- It is centered on high population Zdalzi and the cluster of Zdalzi worlds around it -- relatively heavily populated Viezhzdi' Shtaf, the stellar research outpost at Plafrezhdish, and the mining outpost on Chablzhdia.
- Its coreward arm runs from Zdalzi and Chablzhdia, to the Zhodani-constructed supply base on Bliazheprvlaf, to agricultural Fliblshichtia, and terminates at gradually developing Chtashekldlanz.
- Its trailing arm runs from Zdalzi to rimward, to agricultural Dranshiqlbi', then turns to trailing, connecting with agricultural Jdakrief, high population Sitiefladr and agricultural Friaprchivzhdo, finally terminating at non-industrial Qriensh Jdazh.
A map of the String of Pearla route is shown, right:
- Zdalzi worlds are marked in red.
- Worlds marked in green lie on the coreward arm.
- Worlds marked in blue lie on the trailing arm.
World Listing[edit]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The subsector is a frontier region, close to the edge of settled space. To coreward, in Talpaku Subsector, the recently formed S'raak Empire acts as a buffer state between the Talpaku Communality and the Zhodani Consulate. This has freed up Talpaku resources, enabling the Talpaku's expansionist tendencies -- their sights are firmly set on the "empty" central and rimward parts of String of Pearls Subsector. The Communality government sees such expansion, if handled properly, as a way of improving the economy and also of improving the public's perception of their governance. The independent worlds of the region are not likely to yield to Talpaku rule without a fight.
Rumours of lost treasure hoards and private mines on the barren worlds of this subsector have circulated for centuries, supposedly established by smugglers or merchants attempting tax avoidance. Occasionally, a treasure hunter sets up an expedition to seek such a find, but these are usually fruitless. It is a standing joke that at least one person in every starport of the subsector makes a living solely by selling treasure maps.

Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]
Some of the more important historical events that have affected this subsector and the wider region it lies within:
- −302,000: To coreward, the Ancients arrive at Zhdant (also known as Zhodane) with Terran humans.
- −6738: The First Psionic Games; the beginning of the current Zhodani calendar.

- -2500: Vlazhdumecta systems in Yiklerzdanzh unify as the Izrats Kriezhlas Unity.
- −1000: The Zhodani Consulate reaches its present size.
- 0: Far to trailing, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 561: Solomani settlers arrive in Yiklerzdanzh.
- 626: The Driantia Steblenzhtia, or Zhodani Colonnade Province, is founded.
- 1100: The Zhodani, Talpaku, and Meichntid Ibl all initiate contact with the S'raak, hoping to use them for their own purposes; the S'raak play along with all parties to gain diplomatic concessions and technical assistance.
