Yiklerzdanzh Sector lies on the edge of settled space, within the Zhodani sphere of influence.

  • It is part of Charted Space.
  • Its coreward regions are part of the Zhodani Province of Iadr Nsobl.
  • Some sources spell the name as Yikler Zdanzh Sector.

Description[edit]

Yiklerzdanzh Sector is a fragmented frontier region lying on the rimward edge of the Zhodani Consulate.

  • It contains a number of rival polities, all jockeying for influence and power.
  • The Zhodani appear relatively disinterested in the sector.
  • The resources of the sector are being exploited.

The first modern interstellar explorers within the region were the Zhodani.

  • Evidence of Ancients activity exists within the sector.

Imperial data on the sector was initially gathered during the First Survey.

  • First Survey primary data regarding the sector was very fragmented.
  • The data drew heavily on the records and accounts of previous explorers within the region.
  • The data from this period is known to contain a number of significant errors.

The sector was further surveyed by the Imperium during the Second Survey.

  • IISS staff from the Spinward Marches and a few IISS personnel based at Pautho, in Theta Borealis Sector, were able to personally gather
limited amounts of data at great personal risk.
We salute their valor and honor the fallen.
  • Much of the current data relating to the sector was based on remote long-term observations done over approximately 70 years (from 995 to 1065).
  • Most of the output from these observations was automatically collated and generated.
  • Post-publication examination of the sector data by the IISS has revealed a number of errors, largely relating to the classification of some of the stars within the region.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:

Summary[edit]

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Yiklerzdanzh Sector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Chart Yiklerzdanzh Sector Stellar Distribution Basic.png
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.

Rift Regions[edit]

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
Borealis Group Stars
Rom's Rosette

A simple map showing rift regions within Yiklerzdanzh Sector, right:

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.

Commercial vessels commonly encountered within this region rarely use drives of greater than Jump-3 performance.

  • Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • Rifts present a significant obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.

The sector lies to spinward-coreward of the Idella Rift.

Borealis Group[edit]

The spinward-rimward skies of the sector are lit by the Borealis Group, a very large cluster of stars containing an unusually high number of stellar giants.

The stars of the Group are surrounded by more than sixty other giant and subgiant stars, some almost as bright as the named giants, as well as numerous main-sequence stars and white dwarfs.

  • The Borealis Group contains significant amounts of gas and dust that reflects and refracts the light of the stars, giving it an ethereal glow.

Rom's Rosette[edit]

Rom's Rosette is a cluster of six giant stars lying in the coreward-central part of Rom's Loch Subsector, on the rimward edge of the sector.

The six primary stars of these systems all appear to have evolved into stellar giants at the same time.

Five of the six giant stars retain no rocky secondary worlds, instead being ringed by multiple planetoid belts.

  • There is evidence to suggest that each belt was once a planet.
  • The only worlds in these systems are gas giants and their moons.

Alien Moon 04.jpg

Although information about this huge astrographic feature is limited, research indicates that it seems to have originated at least 250,000 years ago.

  • Chejieb is noted as being an Ancients Site. It apparently dates to the same period as the Rosette's formation.
  • Iareflonzal is home to a large subterranean community of Chirpers, who appear to have been transplanted to the world at around the same time.

Both of these worlds are moons of gas giants.

Singing Stars of Yiklerzdanzh[edit]

The Stellar Chorus of the Singing Stars

The Singing Stars of Yiklerzdanzh is a name given to a group of giant stars lying within Stellar Chorus Subsector of Yiklerdanzh Sector.

The giant primary star of each system generates intense interference, strange tones and loud noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.

  • The frequency, amplitude, wave form and duration of the tones that each star produces are unique.
  • The signals generated by the stars can be detected from across the sector and far beyond.

The noises and tones that the stars produce can sound like spoken words or like voices singing -- speakers of Zdetl often claim to recognize distinct phrases within the sounds, repeating over and over.

  • Many find these noises eerie or disturbing.

The stars, by chance, appear to form a choir of red- and white-colored "singers" facing a yellow-colored "conductor". The noise generated by the stars and their stellar positions serve to give Stellar Chorus Subsector its name.

Economic Astrography[edit]

Yiklerzdanzh Importance:
importance shown in green

Zhodani Shadow[edit]

The Zhodani Shadow is a term given to a twenty parsec deep social and economic zone around the Zhodani Consulate's rimward borders. Yiklerzdanzh Sector lies solidly within it.

  • Worlds within this somewhat nebulous region tend to be heavily influenced by Zhodani culture and sophistication. Most use Zdetl as their primary language.
  • The Consulate use this influence to their advantage, pulling the strings of minor powers and conducting none-too-subtle military and intel activities within these border regions.

Some worlds resist the Consulate's heavy social and economic pressure.

  • Opponents of the Zhodani refer to the Consulate and its activities as Perfidious Zhodane.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

The coreward reach of the sector is part of the Zhodani Consulate, in the Province of Iadr Nsobl. The rest of the sector is Zhodani-influenced, but the attention of the Consulate's nobles has long been on the Core Expeditions or on productive trade opportunities with Vargr and others to trailing; as a result, the Zhodani didn't see fit to claim the whole sector, and now the Consulate is static in its official borders.

They are clearly still invested in events on their frontier, though. The non-Consulate region of the sector is a collection of pocket empires and client nations, many Humans of Zhodani or mixed Zhodani-Solomani descent, plus the only remaining independent multiworld polity of the Vlazhdumecta, which extends into Fulani Sector. Alien powers include the Talpaku, the Carillon, and recently the expansionist S'raak.
