Description (Specifications)[edit]
The interstellar nation of the Talpaku worlds dates to around -3000.
The Talpaku Communality has jurisdiction over 29 worlds with an estimated combined population of 71 billion, a per capita income of Cr6,480, and a total economy of BCr461,436. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr3,425 through 26 starports (8 Class-A, 9 Class-B, 8 Class-C, 1 Class-D) employing 769,690 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Rich (Ri) world, and four Industrial (In) worlds.
The polity is mostly located in Yiklerzdanzh Sector, but a few systems fall within Tsadra Sector.
The Talpaku Communality maintains ten Naval Bases. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 7 and 12). The highest technology level is 13 at Talpakuhome (Yiklerzdanzh 0527).
The highest population world is Gale (Yiklerzdanzh 0526).
The capital of the Talpaku Communality is Talpakuhome (Yiklerzdanzh 0527).
Symbols[edit]
The symbol of the Communality is a circle drawn with a thick, black line (representing space), surmounted by five five-pointed stars at the points of an imaginary pentagon (which represent the five colonised stellar systems when the state was founded).
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
When the Communality was founded, the Talpaku had already settled Bayou, Gale, Shallowwater and Haven.
Economy[edit]
Each world in the Communality has its own currency, the values of which fluctuate against each other according to economic circumstances. There is a "reference" unit of currency called the kuyo, which is used by the Communality government (e.g. in paying employees and the military and for its own purchases), by multistellar companies, at starports, and for transactions between individuals and companies on different worlds.
The main source of lanthanum for the Communality is Chaos Fallen.
Corporations[edit]
Corporations registered within the Communality include the following:
- Demand Minerals: A mining corporation based in the Talpakuhome system.
- Free as Air Trading: A mercantile corporation based in the Bayou system.
- Keyodlo Investigations: A scientific research organization based in the Talpakuhome system.
- Kiplkhewhawhe: The largest Talpaku vehicle manufacturing company.
- Kzetawekuk General Minerals: A corporation specializing in resource extraction and processing, based in the Salty Tears system.
- Night Mist Line: A Talpaku interface line based in the Talpakuhome system, operating 1000-dTon jump-2 ships from Talpakuhome to Carillon.
Culture[edit]
The Communality lies within the Zhodani Shadow, a region strongly influenced by the society and culture of the Zhodani Consulate. The Talpaku resent this influence to some degree, with a history of mistrusting Zhodani intentions.

Provisional Timeline[edit]
- circa -5100: The Zhodani reach the Talpakuhome system and briefly observe the Talpaku.
- circa -4700: The southern continent on Talpakuhome is united for the first time, though only briefly.
The Talpaku reach TL–2. - circa -4600: Southern continent balkanized again, but remains relatively peaceful.
The homeworld reaches TL–3 during this peaceful period. - circa -4400: An eccentric technological genius takes society from late TL–3 to full TL–5 in one lifetime. Zhodani radio signals are detected and a reply is sent.
- circa -4340: First manned space flight (to Kitilku).
- circa -4300: Talpaku reach TL-6. First permanent colony established on Kitilku. Probes sent to all worlds in home system.
- circa -4119: Competition for ownership of ore bodies through entire home system results in "Ore Wars". TL reaches 7 (early TL-8 in some cases) as competitors strive for advantage.
- -4114: Zhodani find projector device to be accurate and lose interest in Yiklerzdanzh expansion in favour of Core Expeditions.
- circa -4091: End of Ore Wars.
- circa -4000: First Zhodani Core Expedition.
- circa -3995: Xenophobia begins to unite the Talpaku against "unknown hostile aliens". Interstellar missions planned, space defenses against interstellar invasion begin to be established.
- -3915: Full TL-8 (and TL-9 for space technology) reached. First interstellar colonisation ships launched. Steady, planned interstellar colonisation begins.
- -3000: Five systems now colonised (including home system). Founding of Talpaku interstellar state.
- -2700: Full TL-10 reached. Zhodani interdiction station discovered, automatic defences accidentally triggered. Increased xenophobia.
- -1792: Zhodani merchant ship wanders into a Talpaku system and is captured. Talpaku learn secret of the jump drive.
- -1750: Zhodani task force returns and is overwhelmed. Zhodani change tack and send scout ships to determine extent of Talpaku space.
- -1685: Zhodani return and symbolically occupy a single Talpaku system to prove a point. Talpaku retake system and invade Zhodani Consulate. War goes well initially but Talpaku driven out once Zhodani have fully mobilized. Indefinite ceasefire called.
- -1680: Zhodani begin making serious survey of Yiklerzdanzh. Meichntid Ibl contact Talpaku and explain things; Talpaku are distrustful but enter into an alliance.
- -1595: Execution of Zhodani ambassador for psionics use triggers Second Talpaku War.
- -1230: First Izrats Kriezhlas Unity "Talpaku Mission" fails.
- circa -1000: Zhodani Consulate reaches present size.
- -900: Talpaku xenophobia finally begins to ebb and some diplomatic ties are formed.
- -120: Second Izrats Kriezhlas Unity "Talpaku Mission" succeeds; large scale trade begins.
- 300-420: The First Survey charts the worlds of the Communality.
- 995-1065: The Second Survey charts the worlds of the Communality.
- 1065: The Second Survey is published.
- 1100: The Talpaku achieve TL–D.
