Kuyo
The central currency of the Talpaku Communality.
Each world within Talpaku space has its own currency, the values of which fluctuate relative to each other according to shifts in economic circumstances. The kuyo is a "reference" unit, used by the Communality for such matters as paying government employees and the military. It is also used by multi-stellar companies and starports, as well as for transactions between individuals and companies on different worlds. Most Talpaku planets use the technology for electronic transfer, in part to avoid the possibility of physical theft, which is traumatic to Talpaku (often referenced as nearing murder in its severity). As regards more abstract forms of theft, banks commonly import higher tech security devices in order to attract customers over their competitors. If necessary, the communications networks can be instructed to accept financial transfers via less secure means, but these instructions must be given in advance at a site equipped with full security.
Any citizen of the Talpaku Communality (and non-citizen who has been on one of their planets for more than 28 days), must pay tax on income. Bartering for goods or services is illegal, and financial transactions are kept in strict confidence.
