Glass Sea is a nonindustrial desert world with no free-standing water.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Talpaku Communality in the Talpaku Subsector of Yiklerzdanzh Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This world contains an archaeological site with suspected high-tech remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Glass Sea is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence.
- The secondary is a white dwarf stellar remnant.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been partially surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- An unknown number of secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's prime H region.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Glass Sea is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Glass Sea has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences moderate temperatures.
- Talpaku have small lungs, adapted to the high oxygen taint of their homeworld. To live in a standard atmosphere involves an adaptation period, but is achievable so long as the world also has a high oxygen taint, as Glass Sea does.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Glass Sea has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Satellites[edit]
Glass Sea does not retain any moons.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms are thermophilic - they thrive in high temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Glass Sea has an archaeological site believed to be associated with the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
- The exact location and nature of this site has never been publicly revealed, though speculation is rife.
Around 90% of the surface of the world is composed of a green, translucent, glassy rock.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Glass Sea has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Glass Sea has a population of 70,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of Talpaku.
- A few humans and other sophonts may be encountered.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
Talpaku, a language comprised of whistles and clicks, is commonly used on the world.
- Talpaku cannot vocalize human sound, and even the most skilled humans can only poorly imitate spoken Talpaku.
- Language Translators are widely used for inter-species communication.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Glass Sea possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Glass Sea is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.
World Law (L)[edit]
Glass Sea has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]
Each world in the Talpaku Communality has its own currency, the values of which fluctuate against each other according to economic circumstances.
There is a "reference" unit of currency called the kuyo, which is used by the Communality government, by multistellar companies, and for transactions between individuals and companies on different worlds.
World Culture[edit]
The world lies within the Zhodani Shadow, a region strongly influenced by the society and culture of the Zhodani Consulate.
Every 9 Talpaku years, the annual Festival of Life is preceded by a 3 day Festival of Sport. This great sporting event is staged on one Talpaku planet (selected at random during the previous extended Festival). One team may be entered from each stellar system. The series is extremely popular and recordings of each match are sent away as soon as possible. Like the Tea Clippers of ancient Terra, the first ship to bring a recording of a match to a given world receives a premium price for it.
World Timeline[edit]

- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
