Oustafiylr is a low-population water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Trita Subsector of Canopus Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Oustafiylr has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 planetoid belts.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Oustafiylr is tidally locked to its primary star.
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Oustafiylr is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Oustafiylr has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures within the twilight zone.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Oustafiylr has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
The dark face of the world is covered in a frozen crust of ice, the surface temperatures on the bright face can reach near-boiling, while a thin ribbon with much more temperate conditions lies between them. In the deeper regions of the oceans the circulating waters moderate temperatures.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
All kinds of fascinating lifeforms are located within the world's various marine ecological regions, with some species being hardy enough to dwell in locations across the entire world. The areas with the densest concentrations of life are around underwater volcanoes and deep sea hydrothermal vents. Curiously enough, most lifeforms seem to have developed specialized internal sensors for detecting stellar flares. Local lifeforms seem to known when a flare is about to occur and dive to deeper waters accordingly.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Oustafiylr was originally inhabited by an Aslan science mission that numbered in the thousands, though they abandoned the world in the 1050s for reasons that remain unknown. The world is covered with Aslan aquatic outposts, oceanic marker buoys, and floating survey beacons. Humans have taken over some of the abandoned Aslan facilities but most have not been visited since the Aslan left them.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while a few see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Oustafiylr has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Oustafiylr has a population of 20 sophonts (tens).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without significant outside assistance. This may represent a transient population such as the crew of a starship, the final survivors of a dying colony, an advance team setting up to receive colonists, or a small outpost where establishing a colony is not the primary objective.
- The population almost entirely consists of humans of Solomani descent.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Solomani Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Oustafiylr possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Oustafiylr has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
World Law (L)[edit]
Oustafiylr has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 0 (none available)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 1 (monolihtic)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 2 (typical)
- Symbols: 9 (somewhat abstract)
