System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Holtan Rock is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Holtan Rock has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Holtan Rock has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Many forms of primitive native life occupying a broad range of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Almost all life on the world is extremely small or microscopic. The largest known species are fungal structures that grow to a few millimeters in height.
  • Native lifeforms thrive in very arid environments: excessive moisture is lethal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Stormriders[edit]

It is believed that a tiny species known as Stormriders are native to Duuga, which later became known as Holtan Rock. Stormriders got their name from their common dormancy habitat – riding like sand particles in a windstorm. In the presence of moisture, a Stormrider "grain" leaves its dormant state and secretes a sticky, superglue-like substance that attaches it securely to a possible source of water and nutrients.

Since dormant Stormriders resemble grains of sand, it is difficult to keep them from being slowly spread from world to world by interstellar travellers: the history of their appearance on other desert worlds in Zarushagar Sector during the Ziru Sirka seems to bear this out. By the time of the Third Imperium, Stormriders were known to exist on desert worlds all the way from the Spinward Marches to the Solomani Rim.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Holtan Rock has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Holtan Rock has a population of 60,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Holtan Rock possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Holtan Rock is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.

World Law (L)[edit]

Holtan Rock has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)[edit]

Holtan Rock, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
