Busiris is a low population, fluidic hellworld of less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Barrens Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a frozen world, with a climate of extremely low temperatures.
- A Prison World, exile camp, or prison camp for criminals or other exiles is located upon this world in addition to other points of interest.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Busiris is a binary star system.
- The primary is a yellow main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Busiris orbits in the star's outer system.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Busiris is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Busiris has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences very low temperatures.
- The mean polar temperatures fall to below -100°C.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Busiris has 05-15% of its surface covered by water-ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
It has small polar lakes and seas that consist of liquid propane and ethane.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Busiris is an exile camp for individuals who oppose the government of Zhang. As well as common criminals, the world houses disgraced military personnel, journalists or media figures who have been too outspoken, individuals convicted of a broad range of "political crimes", and Zhang opposition politicians and their families.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Busiris has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport. The barebones downport is located a few kilometers from the one planetary sea.
The startown of Busiris is constructed of a mixture of standard colony shelters and plastic domes, often imported as prefabricated units from Orient. There are some shops selling local crafts and a number of taverns providing alcoholic beverages. There are at least two large automated hydroponic blocks which supplement the prison rations, which are provided by regular deliveries from Zhang.
World Population (P)[edit]
Busiris has a population of 5,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
A small community named Danaid – a startown of sorts – lies near the downport. It is centered on a fortress-like prison complex. There is a single large mining town named Digdug, located near a confluence of exposed metal veins around 250 km from the starport, as well as a number of smaller mining outposts sited on particularly rich lodes. A railroad network and road-train routes connect the mining sites and transport metals and mineral ores back to the starport.
The mining town of Digdug is largely constructed from plastic domes but now boasts larger, metal reinforced structures clad in thicker plastics. One area has been prepared as a reactor site, housing a small molten salt reactor, which appears to have supplanted the co-located solid state energy pod.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Busiris possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Busiris is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
World Law (L)[edit]
Busiris has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
The worlds principal exports are minerals ores and local crafts.
- Resources: 7 (few)
- Labor: 2 (hundreds)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 8 (somewhat concrete)
