Herapath is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.
- This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Norumbega Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- This is a hot world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world is also known as Lapanne.

Mainworld Data
Mainworld Geography & Topography
The entirety of the cold-pole hemisphere surface is covered by Ice-9, with the glaciers extending into and through what would normally be the twilight zone. The hot-pole region is arid, with temperatures at the pole steady at 60°C.
The planet is an older one, with little tectonic activity, but there are several ranges of low mountains and hills across the surface.

- The thin nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere is almost completely devoid of water vapor. Vacc-suits are necessary for outside ventures.

History & Background (Dossier)
Herapath is a standard-sized world with a thin, dry atmosphere, but of strange composition. Though it is clearly a hot world, it retains large a polar ice cap on the cold pole; but while the icecap is of water-ice, the water is of an "impossible" configuration that has been dubbed "Ice-9", which apparently has a freezing point of 45.8°C.
This form of ice can be harvested for moisture, if one is careful. According to the local researchers, Ice-9 acts catalytically to immediately freeze any liquid water that touches it, forming additional Ice-9: several researchers froze to death after coming into contact with the substance. Thus far, research has no answers as to the origin of Ice-9.
| Scout Note The researcher-in-chief, Dr. Samuel Johnston, insisted that we leave immediate after our required tour. He pointedly commented that coming here was foolish and dangerous, stating that "the only good reason to allow someone here is to transport research personnel, or to drop off uranium fuel." Recommendation: Red Zone classification. |
World Starport (St)
Herapath has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)
Herapath has a population of 30 sophonts (tens).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without significant outside assistance. This may represent a transient population such as the crew of a starship, the final survivors of a dying colony, an advance team setting up to receive colonists, or a small outpost where establishing a colony is not the primary objective.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization
The outpost lies in a desert region near the trailing twilight point. The colony itself is approximately 1 km away from the local glacier point there.
A fission power-station operates 3 separate molten-salt reactors, which work well in the environment as they do not require water to operate.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)
Herapath possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)
Herapath is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
World Law (L)
Herapath has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
