Holmberg is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.

  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
  • It is a member of the Holmberg Trace.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Notes

The two stars of the Holmberg system have an average separation of 35 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

  • The mainworld, orbiting the primary star.
  • x5 secondary rocky worlds. Two orbit the primary star, three orbit the secondary star.
  • x4 gas giants. Two orbit the primary star, two orbit the secondary star.

History & Background (Dossier)

Holmberg is a member of (and the namesake of) the Holmberg Trace, a cluster and minor trade route lying within the spinward-rimward quadrant of Neworld Sector.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while many see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.

World Starport (St)

Holmberg has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)

Holmberg has a population of 1,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

World Technology Level (T)

Holmberg possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)

Holmberg is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.

World Law (L)

Holmberg has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
