Tizon is a rich world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population in the 100s of millions, which makes it too urbanized to be an agricultural world. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.
- Tizon is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It is part of the Gram Arm.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Tizon is a binary star system.
- The primary is a turbulent orange subgiant named El Cid.
- The secondary is a red main sequence named Bucar.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x9 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Tizon has a dense oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere with almost perpetual cloud cover (only 10% of the planet receives direct sunlight at any given moment), resulting in a chilly climate. Tizon was subject to a fairly successful terraforming program by the Darrians before being abandoned in the wake of the Maghiz disaster. As such, Tizon actually supports some of the last surviving populations of native Darrian species that are extinct on their own homeworld.
It orbits within the primary star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Tizon is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Tizon has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences relatively low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Tizon has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites[edit]
Tizon retains two small moons.
- They orbit once every few weeks.
- Neither have significant installations.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Tizon has two continents: the larger one, Treskaginir, covers most of the northern hemisphere, while a smaller one, Noeglen, takes up half of the south. The world is rich in minerals, with mining communities scattered all over the planet. Tizon's climate is chilly, so the population is concentrated near the equator, particularly around the Athskilinn Sea, a large inland sea that separates central Treskaginir from Noeglen.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Breaks in the cloud cover are rare and rainfall is near-constant. The overall climate at ground level is rather cold as a result of the cloud barrier, so most of the 400 million or so inhabitants dwell in the more temperate equatorial strip. Further north and south the constant rainfall becomes sleet or hail, with many areas completely snowbound.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Tizon's primary is an evolving K2 IV star, which has become considerably brighter in the last 100 million years.
- It causes interference, strange tones and noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.
Tizon was once uninhabitable, a Mars-like ball of rock that was well outside the system’s habitable zone; it only warmed as the primary brightened.
Historically Tizon has been one of the most important of the Sword Worlds, and in the past it has built an empire big enough to make it a power almost comparable to Gram (Spinward Marches 1223). Today Tizon pours its energy towards trade, science, and art.
World Starport[edit]
Tizon has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The Downport is known as Osgihamn Starport.
- Tizon features a distinct thermocline between the cold low altitude air and warmer cloud zone. This can have strange effects on communications signals and occasionally throws unwary spacecraft around as they descend to land. Those used to Tizon's atmosphere cross 'the layer' with care.
- Tizon Highport has an extensive commercial sector and caters to large numbers of passengers. It is a tourist destination in its own right, with a resort sector containing some of the best hotels, theatres and entertainment establishments in the Sword Worlds.
World Languages[edit]
- Sagamaal: The common tongue of the Sword Worlds Confederation. Its name references the intent that it evoke the language of ancient sagas of northern Terra -- or at least an idealised understanding of those cultures.
Urbanization[edit]
The capital city is Ny Eital.
The temperate zone around the equator is heavily populated, so there are large cities in a wide variety of environments, with highways and other major infrastructure joining them.
World Government (G)[edit]
Tizon is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Military[edit]
Tizon provides very few major combatants to the Sword Worlds Confederation Navy, but its armed merchant cruisers handle a great deal of the logistics, supply, troop transport and rear-area patrol missions.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Tizon has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Tizon possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
Trivia[edit]
Military personnel from Tizon came to live in the region of Tarsus known as Regiment.
Followers of Beriel Andreesen, a failed claimant to the throne of the Tizon Empire, colonised the world named Beriel, in Beyond Sector, in his honour.
Tizona (also Tizón) is the name of one of the medieval swords carried by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid, according to the Cantar de Mio Cid.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 4 (important)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: F (extremely abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: D (comprehensive)
- Efficiency: +4 (advanced)
Tizon's exports to the rest of the Sword Worlds include the weizenoelnir, or wheat beers. A number of large brewing corporations produce these, and the exact techniques are closely guarded industrial secrets.
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 8 (discordant)
- Acceptance: C (xenophilic)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: A (abstract)
Tizonians have a different attitude to conflict than most of the Sword Worlds. Cost effectiveness and long term gain are more important than glorious deeds, and Tizon is prone to negotiate throughout a conflict rather than simply at its end.
The very rich patronise art and learning, with the result that Tizon draws talented people from other Sword Worlds who cannot otherwise afford to pursue their talents.
