Steppe Subsector is Subsector E of Ilelish Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Nuzuu Main. (Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
Great Ilelish Main. (Chart sourced from Traveller Map).

The subsector has a relatively poorly developed economy that is often frequented by low volume speculators and free traders.

Astrographic Features[edit]

The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this subsector:

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Steppe Subsector, right:

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Trade Routes[edit]

Mains are chains of star systems, each lying 1 parsec from its neighbour. They are trade routes, with high cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels moving along them, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between their member worlds.

The Nuzuu Main[edit]

The Nuzuu Main is an important trade artery that extends slightly into the coreward part of the subsector. It has 66 member worlds and runs between Verge and Ilelish Sectors.

A basic chart of the Nuzuu Main is shown, right:

The Great Ilelish Main[edit]

The subsector marks the coreward terminus of the Great Ilelish Main. The Main has 104 member worlds and runs between Verge and Ilelish Sectors.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Steppe, subsector E of Ilelish, contains 40 worlds with an estimated combined population of 97 billion, a per capita income of Cr4,205, and a total economy of BCr408,059. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr7,952 through 33 starports (5 Class A, 24 Class B, 2 Class C, 2 Class D) employing 1,743,410 people. Driving this interstellar trade are five Agricultural (Ag) worlds, four Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, three Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, three Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, two Rich (Ri) worlds, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Steppe maintain eight Naval bases, one Way station, and one Scout base. The average technology level is 10 (with most between 8 and 12). The highest technology level is 15 at Heridd (Ilelish 0217), Gons (Ilelish 0220), and Rughl (Ilelish 0712).

Steppe, subsector E of Ilelish, contains 59 stars and 420 identified planets; 23 monostellar systems, 15 binary systems, two trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 32 of the 40 systems (80%) have native gas giants. There are one Asteroid (As) belt, one Desert (De) world, three Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, nine Poor (Po) worlds, one Vacuum (Va) world, and two Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Steppe has an estimated population of 97 billion distributed across seven High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 19 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Shashinke (Ilelish 0620), Ekih (Ilelish 0811), and Duel (Ilelish 0719). The population consists primarily of 1 sophont group.

Third Imperium, Domain of Ilelish[edit]

The Third Imperium, Domain of Ilelish has jurisdiction over all of the worlds with an estimated combined population of 97 billion, a per capita income of Cr4,205, and a total economy of BCr408,059. The governments in the Third Imperium, Domain of Ilelish maintain eight Naval bases, one Way station, and one Scout base within the subsector. The average technology level is 10 (with most between 8 and 12). The highest technology level is 15 at Heridd (Ilelish 0217), Gons (Ilelish 0220), and Rughl (Ilelish 0712).

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Steppe Subsector is defended by 167th Fleet.

Few have forgotten the Ilelish Revolt in the year 418, in which this subsector was brutally repressed. Even hundreds of years later, the area has still not fully recovered. An Imperial overclass still rules over many descendants of the once protestors and rebels. There are very few rich or industrial worlds and that could be changed with investment and a little cultural momentum. The many poor and struggling high population worlds could be developed into modern metropolises and nexus worlds.

Polity Listing[edit]

The following polities can be found within this subsector:

Native Sophonts[edit]

No Sophont species are believed to have originated in this area.

Demographics[edit]

Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
