Ossifur is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Standish Subsector of Daibei Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
- It is an unincorporated Imperial world.
- It lies within the Zazish Expanse region of the Rimward Link.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Ossifur has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Ossifur is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Ossifur has a pressure of 2.5 or greater atmospheres. A Dense & High Pressure Atmosphere typically requires no survival gear under many conditions. Pressure at or below sea level is too great to support life but is breathable at higher altitudes. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Ossifur has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Ossifur is a member of the Zazish Expanse region of the Rimward Link, an important trade route running through parts of Daibei Sector, Massilia Sector, and Zarushagar Sector.
Despite being a full member of the Imperium, including holding the seat of a member of the Imperial Nobility, for complicated legal reasons Ossifur lies beyond the official Imperial border.
- It is a tax haven, allowing the exploitation of loopholes in Imperial taxation laws.
- The Imperial megacorporation Sharurshid maintains extensive offices and facilities on the world.
- It has long been suspected that criminal organizations take advantage of the world's status.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Ossifur has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Ossifur has a population of 7,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Ossifur possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Ossifur is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law (L)[edit]
Ossifur has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Ossifur, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.
