General Description

The Scourge class is a battleship with 2-G and J-3 performance. It is built around a powerful spinal meson accelerator, the best available by tech level, and also mounts multiple heavy missile batteries and clusters of laser turrets that are most commonly used in a point defense capacity. Defenses include its heavily armored skin, sandcaster batteries, screens and dampers, as well as extensive electronic countermeasures and jamming. The vessel is partially streamlined, is capable of independent refueling operations, and can make surface landings on planets with little or no atmosphere.

The vessel has hardened and reinforced ventral surfaces that can withstand and support the weight of the ship, allowing surface landings.

Each crew section has a commander, senior officers, and multiple junior officers. Accommodations There are 320 Staterooms. Staterooms are configured to what the Jansa and the Jaibok consider to be comfort. All Staterooms are given over to the crew. 50 are single occupancy and are set aside for selected command personnel and the marine officer: the remaining 270 are double occupancy or set aside for specific purposes. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-2 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-3 and 2-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 0 and an emergency agility of 2. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. The jump drive utilizes a hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/6 fib computer. A backup Model/6 fib is installed in engineering. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sophisticated sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package and Jamming Equipment. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x400 hardpoints. The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Scourge class is: x1 Type P spinal mount Meson Gun. x8 100-ton Bays. Each Bay mounts multiple heavy missile launchers. x60 triple Beam Laser turrets, grouped into six batteries of 10 linked turrets.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, braced and structurally reinforced. It has an armor rating of 7. x180 triple Sandcaster turrets, grouped into eighteen batteries of 10 linked turrets. The vessel is equipped with a meson screen and a nuclear damper.
8.	Craft	Flight Section: x60 10-dTon KF3c Vendetta class Fighters. Divided into six squadrons of ten fighters. x4 10-dTon KU1a Fetch class Launches. The subcraft are housed in dedicated hangars: the hangars can be sealed and have a total volume of 900 dTons. 68 dTons of hangar space is unused, allowing berthing space for small craft of up to 50 dTons. The vessel is fitted with x3 Launch Tubes. Each tube is able to launch or recover one squadron per turn.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 13600 dTons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant, capable of refining all onboard fuel in a few hours.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr33,924.340 Architects Fee: MCr339.244 If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr27,139.472 The price does not include the cost of the subcraft: x60 Vendetta class Fighters cost MCr1212.6 (a discount is applied on the bulk order, reducing the cost to MCr970.08). x4 Fetch class Launches cost MCr24.64 (a discount is applied on the bulk order, reducing the cost to MCr19.712). With its full complement of subcraft, a discounted Scourge class costs MCr28,129.264 (subcraft discount included).
11.	Construction Time	186 weeks as standard, 149 weeks in bulk. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 5 dTons. The hold has independent life support and environmental systems. It can be sealed and isolated.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Scourge class Battleship is a rarely seen but much discussed type of capital ship used by the Korsumug Empire, typically serving as the core vessel for a defensive force. There are no exact records of the number that have been built, but there are known to be relatively few of them due to construction yard limitations. No extant examples of the ship have been captured by other interstellar states.

The type was designed by the Jansa, a minor race closely allied with the Jaibok. Jansa serve as the majority of the crew: Jaibok are inefficient and disorganised on large vessels and where there are Jaibok aboard, they are assigned specific roles best suited to their temperament.

The Scourge class is a relatively new design of vessel, having been constructed to counter large combat vessels fielded by the Principality of Mavuzo and the Sorority of Hygiea. Examples of the class are occasionally encountered throughout Mavuzog Sector and Theta Borealis Sector: they always have large numbers of escorts.

• The class are primarily manufactured on Esmeria, in Taltan Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
• They are parcelled out in small numbers to active fleets.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities

Vessel Peculiarities:
The entire vessel is built around a spinal meson accelerator (which takes up a fifth of the internal volume) and the large fusion plant that powers it. The vessel is contained within a heavily armored and reinforced cylindrical hull. All the other major structural elements have the feel of having been fitted around the gun. Access to components and equipment is often awkward and cramped.

Physiologically, neither Jaibok nor Jansa cope well with low berths and they are not routinely fitted to Korsumug vessels.

• Accommodations aboard the vessel are squeezed into convenient corners and available spaces.

Malign class cruisers are deliberately constructed to resemble the larger Scourge class battleship, which are feared for their meson gun armament and tracked closely by offworld interests. Despite their size difference the two classes of vessel have a similar profile and energy signature and are easily confused. The Korsumug Empire uses this to its advantage, using the cruisers to distract its enemies, enabling it to move and position the more dangerous battleships unobserved.

Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KJ refers to Korsumug Empire–Jansa-operated (a designation applied to all very large Korsumug combat units due to the crew limitations that Jaibok suffer), 400 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'd' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Scourge' is an easy to remember name to identify the specific type of vessel.

• Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
