The Horde class is a combat vessel of the Korsumug Empire.
- The class is operated by the Imperial Korsumug Navy.
- The vessel is a Jansa design.
- It is typically crewed by Jaibok.
- It is a TL–11 design.
Examples of the class serve with the Immortal Legion Fleet.
The Horde class is an armored combat craft with 5-G and J-2 performance. It is a slightly flattened irregular sphere that carries missiles and is able to hold its own in a firefight.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary.
|Basic Ship Characteristics |
|1.||Tonnage / Hull||The KE4b Horde class Sloop is constructed using a 400 dTon hull built in a spherical configuration. The hull is partially streamlined and has moderate atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are reliant on its onboard gravitic systems.|
|3.||Performance||The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-5 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-2 and 5-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 5 and an emergency agility of 5. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-2 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.|
|4.||Electronics||Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering.|
|6.||Armament||The normal weapons fit-out for a Lancer class is:|
|7.||Defenses||The hull is plated, braced and structurally reinforced. It has an armor rating of 4.
|9.||Fuel Treatment||The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 104 dTons.|
|10.||Cost||The basic cost of the vessel is MCr465.439
The price does not include the cost of the subcraft:
With its subcraft, a discounted Cataclysm class costs MCr377.280
|11.||Construction Time||64 weeks as standard, 52 weeks in bulk.
|12.||Comments||Standard cargo capacity amounts to 2 dTons.|
The Horde class Sloop is a common type of ship used by the Korsumug Empire, typically serving as part of a patrol force. Early low-jump examples of the class served on the Korsumug Main, where they saw frequent active service. There are no exact records of the number that have been built.
The type was designed by the Jansa, a minor race closely allied with the Jaibok. A number of redesigns with more powerful drives were fielded as the Korsumug Empire began to venture to worlds further from the Main. This ultimately resulted in the KE5c variant, equipped with a Jump-3 drive.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
The vessel is a well-rounded, armored craft with a good reputation among its crews. They operate in a variety of roles.
- Earlier variants of the class were fitted with low berths in order to transport prisoners, a feature that has been removed as internal space issues have become more pressing.
Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KE refers to Korsumug Empire (a designation applied to all Korsumug combat units), 4 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'b' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Horde' is an easy to remember name to identify the specific type of vessel.
- Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
