Jone has a tainted, unbreatheable atmosphere and little available surface water. The system supports a population between 10 million and 100 million. This world is designated an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Five Sisters Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Jone, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a marquis. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. Jone is a preindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Jone' orbits within the starward (HZ+) region of its star's habitable zone.

Chart Orbit HZ+ Region Detailed.png

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Jone is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Jone has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world. The valleys have a rich mix of some very unpleasant gases, which thin out with increasing altitude and in the higher mountainous regions, which is the location of the majority of settlements. Occasionally these gases are disturbed by high winds, bringing them into the higher altitudes. This possibility of mild to severe poisoning gives the world its amber zone qualification. [2] Jone also experiences high temperatures, which add to the "hellish" reputation of the world's atmospheric and weather conditions.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Jone has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere. Much of the surface of Jone is arid and hostile.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Jone is one of the five worlds named after the daughters of the merchant captain Ignaz Ruffleran who explored the Five Sisters Subsector between 142 and 161. The civilization and settlements of Jone perch atop a number of mountains due to a rich mix of unpleasant atmospheric gases that tend to settle out in the valleys. These gases are occasionally disturbed by Jone's high winds, bringing these gaseous compounds into contact with people at higher altitudes which can result in the possibility of mild to severe poisoning. [3]

World Starport (St)[edit]

Jone has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • The world is host to a Naval Base, which is the main training center for the 208th Fleet.
  • Jone is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. In addition to the particular risks and dangers presented by the atmospheric environment, other factors related to the native life forms, laws, customs, or other conditions that are not well understood contribute to the Amber Zone rating. Visitors are advised to act with caution.

World Population (P)[edit]

Jone has a population of 80,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions). Most of these inhabitants live in the upland plateaus, highlands and mountains in sealed environments, mountainside-domed habitats, and arcologies due to the atmospheric conditions at the lower altitudes.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are most commonly heard:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Jone possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Jone is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law (L)[edit]

Jone has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Jone, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
