Denotam is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vilis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Denotam has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Denotam is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Denotam has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Denotam has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- Violent storms sweep across the world's vast oceans.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Denotam is dominated by its vast, sluggish, highly saline oceans and the storms that sweep across them. While the storms are vast and spectacular to observe, the low atmospheric pressure means that surface wind speeds are relatively low, reducing any danger the storms may present – though locals emphasize that no storm should ever be taken for granted. Both the downport and most of the useful land on the world is located on a single small equatorial continent. The poles are covered by ice, under which can be found nutrient-rich waters teeming with aquatic life.
- Sources of potable water are scarce on the world: all water must be desalinated before it can be drunk.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Denotam has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The large commercial port handles significant traffic from high-jump freighters, and specializes in their maintenance.
- The world is host to a Naval Base.
The naval base host elements of the 193rd Fleet. It is also an important x-boat link.
World Population (P)[edit]
Denotam has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Urbanization[edit]
The population inhabit a number of small fishing ports lying along the coast, which are linked to the downport by a basic but functional infrastructure of roads and maglev tracks.
- Smaller communities and private estates are found in more remote regions.
- Communities are controlled by one or more local Clans.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Riftian Galanglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Denotam possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Denotam has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
Denotam is under the government of the Seven Clans as well as multiple smaller tribes. [2][3] The Seven Clans arose on the first Vilani colony vessel which came to Denotam. The seven sections of settlers were originally denoted as Ay, Bee, Cee, etc. For amusement, they took names of Old Earth’s Scottish clans and engaged in competitions. [3] The Seven Clanheads of Denotam and their Clans are:
- The Arnstruther, Head of Clan Arnstruther.
- The Bannatyne, Head of Clan Bannatyne.
- The Clelland, Head of Clan Clelland.
- The Durie, Head of Clan Durie.
- The Erskin, Head of Clan Erskin.
- The Fleming, Head of Clan Fleming.
- The Glas, Head of Clan Glas.
World Law (L)[edit]
Denotam has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Denotam, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
