Subsector G of Gateway Sector.

Description[edit]

Castra would ideally be the crossroads of the sector, but its astrographic realities mean that navigation is difficult and many worlds are rather isolated. Jump-2 ships ply predictable routes between Castra, the Akeena Union, and the Swanfei Free Worlds. The latter run can be dangerous.

The subsector's spinward systems are claimed by the Plavian League.

Castra is also noted for the Vestra Triad, three systems isolated by a 2-3 parsec gap named the Prosaira Deep.

Summary[edit]

Castra, subsector G of Gateway, contains 19 worlds with an estimated combined population of 16 billion, a per capita income of Cr2,193, and a total economy of BCr36,052. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr1,244 through 18 starports (5 Class A, 4 Class B, 8 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 209,265 people. Driving this interstellar trade are five Agricultural (Ag) worlds, four Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, five Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, two Rich (Ri) worlds, and one Industrial (In) world. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 6 and 10). The highest technology level is 11 at Varan's Belt (Gateway 2317).

Castra, subsector G of Gateway, contains 26 stars and 185 identified planets; 12 monostellar systems, seven binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 15 of the 19 systems (78%) have native gas giants. There are one Asteroid (As) belt, no Desert (De) worlds, five Garden (Ga) worlds, no Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, no Poor (Po) worlds, two Vacuum (Va) worlds, and no Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Castra has an estimated population of 16 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, four Moderate population (Ph) worlds, six Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, no Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Condominium (Gateway 2112). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups including one native sophont.

Plavian League[edit]

The Plavian League has jurisdiction over ten worlds in this subsector with an estimated combined population of 5 billion, a per capita income of Cr3,401, and a total economy of BCr18,759. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr935 through 10 starports (3 Class A, 2 Class B, 4 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 160,120 people. Driving this interstellar trade are two Agricultural (Ag) worlds, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, two Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, one Rich (Ri) world, and one Industrial (In) world. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 6 and 10). The highest technology level is 10 at Bremen (Gateway 1818), Colby (Gateway 1917), Samuelson (Gateway 2014), Lem (Gateway 2016), and Plavis (Gateway 2113).

The Plavian League has an estimated population of 5 billion within the subsector, distributed across two High population (Hi) worlds, three Moderate population (Ph) worlds, four Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, no Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Plavis (Gateway 2113) and Quetzal (Gateway 1715). The population consists primarily of 1 sophont group.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are nine Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Castra with an estimated combined population of 10 billion.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The term "Four Subsectors" is frequently used within Gateway Sector to refer to Ashton, Castra, Forcett, and Riftin subsectors. Specifically, it refers to the various independent worlds in these subsectors, those not aligned with the Plavian League, the Trindel Confederacy, or the Megusard Corporate. This region carries a particular notoriety for piracy and lawlessness.

The Human race known as the Swanfeh migrated from an unknown homeworld during the Long Night into this region. They achieved a starfaring culture of some influence, spreading out to control around 30 worlds before gradually losing their technology over a period of centuries. The Swanfeh were isolated on several worlds when other Humans entered Gateway Sector, and either allied with or were conquered by various opportunist newcomer groups.

The Castran Marauders operate in this subsector.
