Historical Eras[edit]
Primarily a corporate entity, the Concourse was formed by a union of fragments of the Viyard worlds which broke away from the Galian Trade League over a century ago, and a military alliance of worlds bordering Crucis Margin originally known as the Collective.
- The nominal capital of the Concourse is Viyard (Gateway 1829). The old Collective capital at Balaclaron (Gateway 1637) still figures prominently in Concourse politics, however.
- The Concourse is currently engaged in a protracted struggle with the Galian Federation over a number of independent worlds which lie between the generally recognized borders of the two governments, including Alphaaric, a world in the Ariel Subsector inhabited by an advanced but enigmatic non-human civilization. Although open war has not been declared, numerous skirmishes and border incidents have brought the area to a fever pitch. The recent Treaty of Granth allied the Concourse with the Hochiken People's Assembly to coreward, a move which is viewed with alarm by observers who see this as a means by the HPA to separate the Plavian League from its Galian ally.

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this polity and its direct predecessors:
- -1700: Human explorers enter Gateway Region.
- -500: Interstellar corporations arise in Galastrian Trade Federation.
- -150: Corporate Sector Wars ongoing in Gateway Sector.
- The Year 0: To spinward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 251-320: A series of workers' revolts in Gateway. Galastrian Metals collapses.
- 320: A final revolt on Balaclaron sees the establishment of a socialist state, the Collective.
- 300 to 420: The Imperial First Survey.
- 750: The Viyard Alliance breaks away from the Galian Trade League.
- 752: The Alliance petitions to join the Collective, provoking the first Viyard-Galian War.
- 754: Viyard defeats a Galian fleet at the Battle of Coralee.
- 758: First Galian-Viyard war ends with the Treaty of Umbrin. Viyard Concourse established.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
The Viyard Concourse government is characterized as having an average degree of centralization, which gives local, regional and planetary governments more power than most governments, but sacrifices uniformity on many issues.
- The Viyard Concourse government is usually classified as a Federation, one with strong elements of Corporatism.

Interstellar Relations: 1116[edit]
This polity conducts diplomacy and maintains active relations with the following other polities:
- Megusard Corporate
- A trade deal between the Concourse and the Corporate was once discussed entirely in haiku at the insistence of the Akeed mediator.
Allies: 1116[edit]
Positive relations exist with the following other polities:
- Free and Holy Federation of Amil: A small state located immediately to rimward, in Crucis Margin Sector. The Federation was once part of the Collective, and despite radically different ideologies the two states remain closely cooperative.
Neutral States: 1116[edit]
Neutral relations exist with the following other polities:
- Hochiken People's Assembly: Enmity with the Galian Federation led the Concourse to seek allies elsewhere, but a treaty with the HPA proved short-lived and of little value. There remains a possibility that Concourse policies might be coordinated with those of the HPA in order to distract and separate the attentions of the Galian Federation and their Plavian League allies.
Enemies: 1116[edit]
Negative relations exist with the following other polities:
- Galian Federation: This state and the Concourse quarrel over the ownership of worlds lying between the two, a dispute that has led to many free-fire incidents. Trade between the two nations is almost nonexistent.
Member States: 1116[edit]
The following states have acquiesced part of their sovereignty, thus forming sub-polities, to this supra-polity:
- Paradise of El is, at times, an effective colony of the Concourse. Isolated in the Silveron Deep, inaccessible by even Jump-2 ships except by a lengthy transit along the Gateway Sword, Paradise of El features a Viyard military base, which often dictates to the local government.
- Medrealm has been actively disputed between the Concourse, the Galian Federation, and the Trindel Confederacy.
- Coralee is under Viyard control, but was never formally ceded to the victorious Concourse. Numerous popular liberation fronts contest the occupation.

- The Concourse falls within a region of relatively scattered stars, with no large clusters or traces.

Military & Intelligence (Force Projection)[edit]
Military task forces in this corporate state are organized ad-hoc and returned to their respective business division as soon as the mission is completed. Equipment returned in less than pristine working order -- or not returned -- causes havoc with internal accounts, depreciation tables, lease agreements, etc.

[edit]
The Viyard Concourse Corporate Fleet has several strange ship designs.
Industrial capacity in the Concourse is relatively low, which precludes the building of large, sophisticated ships except in certain yards. As a result, the Concourse builds its navy around the concept of "task groups" centered on a large flag cruiser, supported by a flotilla of simpler, smaller vessels. The majority of Concourse vessels are frigates of various odd types, in the 2-4000 ton range. Each task group also contains an "intelligence ship" designed to control and direct the remainder. Concourse task groups are efficient so long as control is maintained. Once cohesion is lost, individual vessels perform fairly poorly.
