Keanou is a low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment .

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Keanou is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a turbulent red giant.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
Keanou has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Keanou is a cold, harsh world of rocky deserts and mountains swept by bitter winds.

It orbits within the giant primary star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zone's colder outer H- region.
  • It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Keanou is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Keanou has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • It experiences low temperatures.
  • The atmosphere contains high levels of fine silica dust. If inhaled for extended periods, typically more than a few hours, it causes swelling (inflammation) within the lungs resulting in shortness of breath and severe coughing. Prolonged exposure leads to areas of hardened and scarred lung tissue (fibrosis). The levels of wind-blown dust also cause issues with the eyes, scratching and pockmarking the outer surfaces of visual organs – protective eyewear should be worn at all times.
    • Dust-laden storms can strip paint and markings from surfaces, leaving them as the bare base material.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Keanou has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

  • The small seas are crusted with pack ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

This near-desert world is the source of an unusual variety of dustspice called ice-spice. Rarely, however, is this commodity available in quantity.

The system's huge primary star causes interference, strange tones and noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Keanou has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Keanou has a population of 2,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Keanou possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Keanou is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law (L)[edit]

Keanou has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Keanou, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 5 (scarce)
  • Labor: 2 (hundreds)
  • Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
  • Efficiency: -2 (poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
  • Symbols: 7 (somewhat concrete)

World Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
