Vincennes Subsector, originally designated District 192, was surveyed in 120 and saw most of its settlement between 140 and 280. It is notable for the eponymous Vincennes, one of the few TL-16 worlds in Imperial space.
Description[edit]
Vincennes, subsector J of Deneb has 32 worlds, of which 28 have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, four Desert (De) worlds, one Garden (Ga) world, three Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, seven Poor (Po) worlds, four Vacuum (Va) worlds, and two Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds. In Vincennes there are two race homeworlds.
Native Sophonts[edit]
The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated in this area:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Jonkeereen (an artificial Human subspecies adapted for desert-dwelling. A Variant Human Race)
Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]
The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:
- Aekhu (language): The primary language family of a Vargr ethnic and cultural bloc distinctive of the region.
- Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
- Gl'lu (language): The native language of the Gl'lu, who are an active merchant force within Deneb Sector.
- Gvegh (language): The primary language family of a populous Vargr ethnic and cultural bloc.
- Nenlat languages: The native language of the Nenlat, active participants in Imperial culture within the sector.
- Vilani (language): One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.

History & Background[edit]
Vincennes, originally designated District 192, was surveyed in 120. Most of its settlements were established between 140 and 280. The world of Vincennes developed rapidly and was made the subsector capital when the subsector was admitted into the Imperium in 243.
At this time the provisional government was replaced by the Humbolts, an Imperial family of Solomani descent. The assignment of the Humbolt clan to the Marquisate of Vincennes was less of a reward and more of an exile, with a charge to keep Starlane open and crush the nearby Vargr states.
In 628, the Humbolts were charged with violation of Imperial law and exiled beyond the Imperium. A new family took over running the duchy.
Two Vincenzian dukes, in a row, resorted to unacceptable measures in their attempts to regain the status as sector duke. Following the second incident, the new Duke of Vincennes was 'invited' to move to Capital and settle there. The duchy was turned over to the Marquis of Vincennes, who was given a newly created title "Count of Perez and Erisis" to give him a high enough status to deputize for a duke. As a count who spoke for a duke, he could deal adequately with neighboring subsector dukes but had no hope of ever becoming sector duke himself.
In 1107, the old count died without an heir and in 1108 Audine Aledon Garhik, the nephew of the Duke of Zeng, was selected to be the new Marquis of Vincennes and Count of Perez and Erisis.
Historical Eras[edit]
Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this subsector:
- The Year 0: To rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 34: The Lidash League, led by Deneb (Deneb 1925), is contacted by the IISS; trade begins soon afterwards.
- 75: Regina Subsector in the Spinward Marches is settled, shifting the centre of trade from Deneb to Mora.
- 120: Full survey of Vincennes Subsector (District 192) undertaken.
- 220: Vargr Campaigns begin.
- 243: Vincennes Subsector admitted into the Imperium. Humbolt family exiled there as ruling nobility, with a charge to keep Star Lane open and crush the nearby Vargr states.
- 300 to 420: The Imperial First Survey.
- 350: Vargr Campaigns end.
- 528: Jonkeereen Project begins development of a Human subspecies suited for hostile desert environments.
- 613-622: The Denebian Bad War, part of the Civil War.
- 628: The Humbolt clan is exiled from the Imperium for extreme violations of Imperial law.
- 675: Xboat system covers Deneb.
- 1065: The Second Survey is published. Information about the region becomes widely available.
Politics and Diplomacy : Milieu 1116[edit]
Vincennes, subsector J of Deneb, contains 32 worlds with an estimated combined population of 35 billion, a per capita income of Cr19,193, and a total economy of BCr686,459. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr6,517 through 26 starports (4 Class A, 8 Class B, 13 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 1,786,150 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, five Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, three Rich (Ri) worlds, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Vincennes maintain eight Scout bases, three Naval bases, and one Way station. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 6 and 12). The highest technology level is 16 at Vincennes (Deneb 1122).
Vincennes, subsector J of Deneb, contains 54 stars and 351 identified planets; 14 monostellar systems, 14 binary systems, four trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 28 of the 32 systems (87%) have native gas giants.
Vincennes has an estimated population of 35 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 15 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Dekha (Deneb 1128) and Vincennes (Deneb 1122). The population consists primarily of 3 sophont groups including two native sophonts.

The Third Imperium, Domain of Deneb has jurisdiction over all of the worlds with an estimated combined population of 35 billion, a per capita income of Cr19,193, and a total economy of BCr686,459. The governments in the Third Imperium, Domain of Deneb maintain eight Scout bases, three Naval bases, and one Way station within the subsector. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 6 and 12). The highest technology level is 16 at Vincennes (Deneb 1122).
