Description (Specifications)

The Launch is a historical design produced in the Terran Confederation during the early 22nd century. Many example of the class were carried aboard the vessels of the Last Armada as they fled the Destruction of Terra at the hands of the Vilani Imperium in 2147AD. The class were sturdy and reliable and endured more than a century of hard service. They were typically used to ferry small quantities of fuel to ships.

1.	Tonnage	The Launch is constructed using a 20 Ton hull built in a generally Conical configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving good atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems. The vessel is fitted with an airlock. The cargo hold is accessed by a hatch and has a loading ramp. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x1 crew. x1 Pilot/Commander. Accommodations There are 4 small Staterooms, which are used by the pilot and passengers as necessary. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Maneuver-2 drive and a Power Plant-2, giving performance of 2-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2. The internal fuel tankage gives the power plant 10 weeks duration. The engineering section is controlled from the bridge.
4.	Electronics	There is a cockpit containing a pilot's acceleration couch and a Model/1 computer: no backup computer is installed. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a basic sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x1 hardpoint.
6.	Armament	The Launch is not armed.
7.	Defenses	The hull is unarmored. 1 triple Sandcaster turret, forming its own battery.
8.	Craft	The vessel carries no subcraft.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 1 Ton. The vessel is not equipped with fuel purification equipment.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr11.275 Architects Fee: MCr0.113
11.	Construction Time	24 weeks (5.5 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 5.7 Tons. The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.

History & Background (Dossier)

Launches were carried by Fast Escorts. They were constructed in great numbers at Terran-controlled shipyards throughout the Interstellar Wars period. Large numbers were transported to the Expedition's private port facilities in the empty systems lying to rimward of Terra. Once there, their fitting out was completed and they were laid up against the Expedition's future needs.
