The Fearless class Assault Transport is a Transport Bigcraft.
- It is a Paramilitary Ship and a Utility Auxiliary.
- This is a generic class of vessel.
- Please also see AAB article: Ships of the Distant Fringe.
Description (Specifications)
The Interface Lander is designed to ferry cargo and fuel between a world’s surface and close orbit. It is a common in-system transport vessel within the Distant Fringe and is frequently carried as a subcraft aboard large commercial vessels. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.
- The vessel is a TL-10 design.

Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]
| No. | Category | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Tonnage | The Fearless class is constructed using a 300 dTon hull built in a flattened sphere-shaped configuration. The hull has an airframe constructions and has airfoil surfaces, giving improved atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems.
|
| 2. | Crew | Total Crew Complement: x7
Accommodations
There are 10 Low Berths. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Maneuver-5 drive and a Power Plant-5, giving performance of 5-G acceleration and producing 15 Energy Points. The ship has an agility rating of 2. The internal fuel tankage gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/1 Computer: no backup computer is installed.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | x4 hardpoints. |
| 6. | Armament | The Interface Lander is generally unarmed. |
| 7. | Defenses | The hull is unarmored.
|
| 8. | Craft | The vessel carries no subcraft. |
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 8 dTons.
|
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr142.420.
|
| 11. | Construction Time | 64 weeks (16 months) as standard.

History & Background (Dossier)
The Omicron class is an interface craft primarily designed to shuttle fuel, cargo and sundries between a worlds surface and close orbit. It is frequently used as an in-system transport, carrying equipment and supplies to secondary worlds within a system. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces.
Distant Fringe Vessels
The Distant Fringe is said to be a far spinward-rimward area inhabited by colonists and refugees originating on Terra. The region is extremely isolated, separated from the rest of Charted Space by vast, almost uncrossable rifts that were once broached by a system of calibration Points and the use of tankers. Those few academics within Charted Space who have found references to the Distant Fringe regard it as little more than a tall tale. Likewise, many of the inhabitants of the Distant Fringe believe the existence of Charted Space to be mythical.[3]
Vessels originating within the Distant Fringe are very rarely encountered outside of the region. However, misjumps do occur and anomalies with bizarre spacetime and Jumpspace effects exist: as such, craft of this type are not entirely unknown within Charted Space.[4]
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
Different examples of the design are known by many different names but all have very similar performance characteristics and capabilities.

Description (Specifications)
The Assault Transport is a solid, reliable vessel designed to transport vehicles, supplies and equipment into dangerous areas. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.
- The vessel is a TL 10 design.
Selected Example Ships
Hull
The Assault Transport is constructed using a 300 dTon hull built in a flattened sphere configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, plated, and structurally reinforced, with an armor rating of 7.
- Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.
- The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have life support.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a maneuver-5 drive and a power plant 5, giving performance of 5G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 5. There is fuel tankage of 15 dTons, giving the power plant 4 weeks duration.
Main Section
The vessel is equipped with a computer model/2: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/2. The vessel has a secure locker with a capacity of 1 dTon. There are 7 staterooms. All crewmembers receive individual quarters. Cargo capacity amounts to 70 dTons.
- The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sensor array, full ECM, and an avionics suite.
- No provision is made for passengers. Troops, if they are carried, remain in the cargo hold for the duration of their time aboard.
Crew
The Assault Transport requires 7 crew: 2x command, 1x engineering, 3x gunnery, and 1x service.
Weapons
The ship is fitted with 3 turrets. These are grouped into:
- one sandcaster battery, consisting of 2 linked triple turrets
- one missile battery, consisting of 1 triple turret
Subcraft
None.
Cost
The basic cost of the vessel is MCr185.950.
- The ship is a standard design. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable.
- If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces their price to MCr148.760.
History
Assault Transports are often deployed by vessels such as the Military Ship Transporter.
An ubiquitous design used throughout the Distant Fringe, the Assault Transport is durable and reliable. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems and onboard electronics.
