System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Youghal is an unusually shaped planet, being greatly flattened at the poles and bulging massively at the equator – though, it should be noted, this bulging is not at all obvious to the naked eye. The atmosphere conforms to the shape of the world (being retained by its gravity) but has noticeable differences in mean pressure between the polar and equatorial regions. The atmosphere is thinner and more difficult to breathe at the equator but is substantially denser at the poles.

It orbits within its star's habitable zone.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Youghal is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

  • It has a high surface gravity.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Youghal has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Youghal has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • Native flora grows close to the ground in the world's high gravity.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

A 200-ton version of the Safari Ship is constructed at the Relani and Wong shipyard on Youghal[2].

World Starport (St)[edit]

Worldname has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Youghal has a population of 2,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

Urbanization[edit]

The entire population inhabits a single city at the south pole. A second, northern settlement was abandoned in 928.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are most commonly heard:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Youghal possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Youghal is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law (L)[edit]

Youghal has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Youghal, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
