Provalan is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Provalan is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a white main sequence.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
Provalan has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Provalan is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Provalan has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Provalan has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in lower temperatures.
  • A native predator, the jigar, is renowned for its ferocity.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Provalan is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.

  • Visitors are advised to act with caution.

It is a member of (and the namesake of) the Provalan Cluster, a minor trade route in the rimward-trailing part of Zarushagar Sector.

Native Sophont[edit]

A sophont species, the Dishaan, are native to the world. They are descended from pack animals, which once roamed in small groups driving predators away from their kills. Their social structure was based entirely around feeding rights and maintained by continuous "pecking order" squabbles. Intelligence gradually developed as the Dishaan evolved ever more elaborate ways of subjugating their pack-mates without resorting to physical violence. Self-interest and constant pursuit of advantage continue to define the Dishaan, a fact that saw them tightly controlled by the Vilani for many centuries.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Provalan has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • The port is a major maintenance depot for Akagi Transport, Ltd., a sector wide shipping firm.

World Population (P)[edit]

Dishaan Sophont Species 02.jpg

Provalan has a population of 600,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

  • The population is almost entirely composed of Dishaan.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

  • Local Dishaan languages.
  • Other languages typically include:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Provalan possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Provalan is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.

Before the time of the First Imperium, Provalan was the capital of the Ushkaq Sasutxi, the Dishaan Hegemony, a small trading empire of about 20 worlds. This state was dismantled by the Vilani during the Consolidation Wars, and Provalan forcibly made a part of the Ziru Sirka.

World Law (L)[edit]

Provalan has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). All aspects of life rigidly controlled. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized, though not routine.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Provalan, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the estate and fiefdoms of three members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 2 (ordinary)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: E (extremely abundant)
  • Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
  • Infrastructure: C (very extensive)
  • Efficiency: +5 (very advanced)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: D (fragmented)
  • Acceptance: A (very friendly)
  • Strangeness: A (incomprehensible)
  • Symbols: H (incomprehensibly abstract)

World Timeline[edit]

Later Historical Eras[edit]

Before the Rebellion, Provalan (AKA Toortiered) was a maintenance depot for Akagi Transport Ltd., a sector wide shipping firm.

  • The facility went into business for itself after the dissolution of Akagi in 1119. Provalan advertised that for the right price, it would service or modify any ship (in keeping with the opportunistic nature of the Dishaan).
